Hello Everyone ..
This is from SHORPY the text says:

Washington, D.C., 1936. "Dept. of Interior exhibit -- kitchen at all electric farm." An early manifestation of the government's push for rural electrification, three years after the Tennessee Valley Authority was created by act of Congress. Harris & Ewing Collection glass negative

I suspect

The farmer's wife was more than willing to put up with the various limitations imposed by these appliances in trade for the work they saved her.

We were poised on the edge of a wonderful era and lost over fifty million lives in such a short time. Wow.

We lost material things to the war, too - automation and really well designed appliances were already on the drawing boards, ready to go when it all got shoved back for more than a decade.

Assuming the pic was not staged...

- It might only be the cabinet door that's blocked. There might be no interior divider and access is through the door immediately to the right.

- I kind of get the "feeling sorry" thing. For me it's imagining what her life was like before the FAN, stove, and dishwasher. I'd imagine the fan made the kitchen a much more pleasant place to work.
