Any thoughts or comments on Waste King garbage disposals? I recently upgraded to a new Waste King, Model SS 8000. The motor is 1HP - 2800 RPM. It also comes with a lifetime in house warranty.

I must say, I have been very pleased so far. Is anyone familiar with Waste King?

Thanks!

These are made by "Joneca" corporation, are are essentially the same as the Titan series. I have the 3/4 HP model Titan and am basically pleased with it. However I think the sink ring is a bit too flimsy - I've already put some major dents in its stainless lining after only a few months. But other than that, the thing handles whatever I've thrown in it. Occasionally it will chuck back a bone so one must be a little careful tossing larger stuff like that in it. But it's never jammed, which is a nice change from the old genuine Waste King SS500 it replaced (all worn out, it was).

Waste King

Was born in 1948, the first widely available continuous feed disposal--GE's were all batch feed, and InSinkErator was only available through plumbers.
Waste King was first made by Given Manufacturing. At some point Norris industries took them over and the name in the 60's and 70's was Waste King-Universal. There were other appliances too, dishwashers, ranges, ovens, grills.
The name was synonymous with a quality disposal too.
In the 80's Masco owned the name, and it was tied to Thermador as well. Prices also went very high, as they were still making the disposers with very little difference as they did in the late 50's
Quietly they just kinda faded. Anaheim bought the name from Masco in 1994, and started putting it on their disposers.
Shane the SS8000 is the TOL model, I'm not crazy about the noisy permanent magnet motor or the plastic sink flange, but its a good solid disposer that should serve you very well.

Thanks Jeff~

I am very pleased so far and the price on eBay couldn't be beat. Hope you and Michael are doing well.

Drop me an e-mail sometime and update me on your life.

They're actually built in China, I replace a lot of these for leaks and I just had one where the grinding plate simply unthreaded off the motor shaft. They seem flimsy, take apart an ISE and you'll see the difference. They are also sold as Franke.
