Water Filter leaking

On a son and daughter-in-laws Kenmore refrigerator model 106.74952401 the filter cover is leaking. This was made by Whirlpool. I have not been able to look at it but son said it is leaking from around the cover. It is a front under the door filter. When he removed the old one the old filter was cracked. Could trhis have damaged the outer case.

What should I look for when I go over? We have a Whirlpool almost the same and never have had a problem with it.

sometimes its helps to lubricate the seals before installing a new one, use a little vaseline.....most times the intructions will tell you to do this.....but usually they just push in and turn and lock in place easily, models vary
