My water heater
6 gallons, 120 volt, 2000 watts
Fits under my sink. Supplies hot water to my washer, sink, and shower.
New its about $229. plugs into standard outlet. I have a twist timer switch to turn it on before I anticipate needing a larger volume of water.
During the summer I have days when I don't need to turn it on.
The front load washer only uses about 4 gallons of hot water during a hot wash.
I chose this so that when I'm finally off grid, I can power it with my solar system. I figure, the heater is ACTUALLY making water about an hour a day. Very little waste
I use the shower with a shut off on the nozzle to cut waste considerably.
Same for washing dishes. small batches and the dishes never pile up.
This heater is small enough to easily move by hand, even when full. When empty, is weighs about as much as 3 large telephone books.
As for connections. Nothing difficult. Washing machine hose to feed it. flexible connections from the shower, faucet, and the washer connects direct.
I can sleep knowing that I'm doing the right thing for the planet. I know that I have some experience with plumbing and electrical.
I wish that others could be as well versed so that they could make these changes for themselves. I think there are a lot of people who just, have no clue. And it isn't their fault.
As a society we need to learn to have conversations that help people become empowered to dump the old energy hog lifestyle. That is only a jewel in oil company stock holders crowns. Thats has got to change.
I was watching another video about the huge sink hole in Louisiana. These are due to the huge amount of oil that our oil based society is dependent on. Its only going to get worse!
And the media is so biased and fails to educate the public.
Its disgusting. Permanent damages to our environment.
I'm rambling. But for a good cause.
I should add, I don't suffer compared to the suburban lifestyle I grew up with, and lived with almost all my life(as if it were somehow a benchmark for good living).
I have sanitized dishes, clean clothing washed in my home, hot shower when ever I need it, etc. I do things DIFFERENTLY now. And I'm proud of that. It took a while to adjust but I had an open and willing mind, and I'm better for it.[this post was last edited: 12/3/2012-00:59]
