Water level switch woes

I tried repairing the original water level switch to my 1963 RCA Whirlpool Imperial Mark XII washer and unfortunately the original water level switch no longer works, I have since installed a water level switch I had in my small parts stash that’s from a 80’s Maytag and that water level switch works but the issue I am having with it is it doesn’t want to do the partial drain on the super wash cycle and spent many hours trying to adjust it. Will a water level switch from a 80’s belt drive washer work or not? Or does it have to be one similar to the original water level switch that came in the machine?

The water level switch needs to be from a standard capacity Whirlpool belt drive.  They all had the same size outer tub so a switch from any one will work without issue.  The only issue you may have is the switch mounting.  Due to changes in the control panel design over the years the mounts are different; you might have to McGyver one in.  

 

How many positions is your switch?  I might have one, but will have to check.

The water level switch I have is a infinite water level control. Funny thing is it worked earlier on the super wash cycle then dec to start acting up when I went to go do a small load of laundry in it this evening.

FSP/Whirlpool/Kenmore water level switches

What's the PN on the original switch? If it's on this list, most of the alternate switches can be found.

I looked up water level switch P/N 357964 and there’s one available on eBay. I might end up getting that one and mounting it to the original water level switch bracket and I have done that before on my Kenmore portable washer and that water level switch should fit. All the other ones I looked up are not available on eBay at the moment.

The new water level switch arrived today, hopefully the new one works like it did the original one did.

Since everything’s fixed now, I put my Whirlpool Imperial Mark XII set into service

Thanks! Silly question but does your Whirlpool dryer that’s paired up with your Whirlpool Imperial washer have the auto dry or not? John mentioned there was a Whirlpool Imperial Mark XII dryer in 1963 but the one turquoise Whirlpool Imperial Mark XII set that’s in Who’s Minding The Store looks like it doesn’t have the auto dry on it and the same set as mine.

Sean, I think your dryer is an Imperial but not a Mark XII.  It doesn't have the Mark XII designation on the control panel, which is on the washer.  The dryer model is 8900, yes?  Mark XII should be 9200 or some such 9xxx.  Thermostatic autodry may be a step-up feature for the Mark XII vs. Imperial.

The house I live in was built in 1985 so this set is 22 years older than the house is. The original owners more than likely had a Kenmore belt drive set when the house was new in 1985.
