I've had an LG WM2650HWA washer for three years now.

Over the past few months, I've noticed that half the time, I find a lot of water sitting in the liquid detergent cup once a cycle is complete.

Any ideas on why this is happening? If so, what should I do?

Below is a pic of what happened after a full delicates cycle.

The cup flushes by overflowing via incoming water during fill.  The residual water when fill stops should siphon out via an outlet under the white cover piece that's marked for Normal and Max levels.  That cover is removable for cleaning.  Check if the cover or outlet tube is clogged.

OK...

So last night, I inspected the cup and white cover piece, and neither object was clogged.

Then I took out the detergent drawer, removed the blue covers and washed the entire drawer assembly.

I'll eventually get some laundry going and see if this still happens.

My asko was doing this except it would be found when I was about to start a load.  At first sporadically and then regularly and on the detergent side...I had a water valve starting to go out.  Replaced and none since.  Now my softener cup will occasionally have some left in it, especially if it's been "water hammering" during the final rinse thus interrupting the siphon action.

Empty it and let it sit for a day or two. See if it fills up on its own. If it fills up on its own you have a water valve that needs servicing. If it stays dry, you are fine, just dump the extra water in the drawer at the end of the cycle and all is good.

Update #2

First of all, I did check the jets above the drawer. They looked clean. I gave them a quick scrub down after washing the drawer.

Second, I emptied the cup and let it dry multiple times. Water still sits in there half the time. And no, I haven't had to have a water valve serviced. I guess I'll have to run the machine without the cup from now on.

The only two types of detergent I use are liquids and pods.

Cup

LG'S run water in spurts, especially during Wash fill and the last Rinse. If enough water doesn't come in to start the syphon some will be left in the cup. No big deal, mine does it about half the time. Just dump it in tbe drawer before adding more soap.

Question for you Nick: Do you always pour the detergent in just before, or as you start the washer?   Or do you do a delay start?

I ask because if you add detergent AS you start the washer, then you can just remove the cup and you'll no longer have that "problem".  (unless you do a "pre-wash" before.)

I always pour in detergent and other additives just before starting the washer (meaning I add them before turning on the machine and selecting the cycle and options). I have done delay starts on some rare occasions.

If I use detergent pods, I'll have to remove the cup.

When you use detergent pods, you should toss it in the drum with the clothes (unless you do a pre-wash).   My feeling is (and I could be wrong) there not enough water flow thru the dispenser to dissolve it completely during the initial fill.

I always do that

What I meant was that I need to remove the cup from the drawer during operation to prevent the water "issue" from happening.

I have never had problems with a pod not dissolving completely.

Yes, but do you check the dispenser drawer after it's finished filling for the main wash, when you use a pod?   Or do you only check it at the end of the cycle?

I have an LG washer...the 3570...and I do get water in the detergent dispenser cup, but nothing like that. If one opens the dispenser in the middle of a cycle, then yes you will find water like that in the cup. The washer runs water into that part and the prewash part of the dispenser all the time, at least mine does. Then when the last deep rinse comes, it will flush the softener from the softener dispenser, and run water thru all compartments to flush it clean. If you have low water pressure like on a well, or you just have low house water pressure, it might cause the issue you speak of.
The water pressure I have here at my home is very high and I have water hammer arrestors inline with my fill hoses because of the water pressure. Without them and with the way the washer rapidly opens and closes the valves, I would lose my toilet valves, water heater and whatever else gets affected.

Not really

RevvinKevin, I don't really have a need to check the drawer during a cycle when I use pods.

Nmassman44, I'm not sure what the water pressure level is in my house. For whatever reason, it varies on some rare occasions. My washer only started doing this several months ago.
