I have been itching to do this for ages and with the fine weather this past weekend, I deemed that the risk of a hard freeze has past and it was time for the 'bucket test' on a couple of recent dishwasher acquistions.
Hubby would not let me do the tests in the basement, so I had to use my lucky turquoise bucket (not pronounced 'Bouquet' in this case...) to get hot water to the machines.

Well, it seemed to hold water just fine! I let the hot water sit for about a half hour then I drained it out. The good news - no evidence of leaks!!

Look! No drips! I was really pleased since I had so much grief with the 56 built-in from the Kitchen Center.

So, I had to try putting some plexiglass on the tub top. It wasn't a perfect fit and figured, 'Well, what could possibly go wrong?'....

So after getting yelled at, I did the next test with the lid shut!

I wonder if the broken impeller is at least partially responsible for the 'rock and roll' observed.

But more good news - the tub gasket still provides an excellent seal.

So, a few tweaks and a paint job will be the next steps for this one!

Now, it was time for the Lady's turn!!

I was much more cautious with this test - I poured in the hot water and let it sit.

More good news - no leaks were observed from under the machine or the door gasket!!

I did not dare run the machine with door open - yet... I will be investing in plexiglass at some point, I swear! It will be part of a wash comparason of a spray-arm roto-rack and an impeller-waash roto-rack - hopefully this summer!

enjoyed the videos

and pics. what a beautiful lady kenmore, i used to spend hours looking at the lady kenmore dishwashers in the sears catalog when i was a kid (while everyone else my age was lookin in the lingerie section i'm sure).

i'm gonna put a plexiglass top on my g.e. impeller machine later this summer. it sounds like it can really throw the water around inside!

Paul it looks and sounds great !

I like the Mobil Maid it says I'M A DISHWASHER ...

when it rocks back and forth.

The light on the LK can you see it on ..because of the light you cant see it..?

Hi, Congratulations on the dishwashers. I bought my mom a new 1967 Lady Kenmore dishwasher in coppertone. The controls looked exactly like that on the 1967 version, yours is a '65? Do all of the cycle lights on the left work ok? Have fun. They must have used the same style then for a few years? Gary

Well, the outside of the machine probably needed a bit of freshening  up....

It sounds like the GE is surging as water is forced up, then has to drop back down in sufficient quantity for the propeller to kick it back up again.  Maybe more water?

That Lady K is just perfect - congrats on a real gem for your collection!
