Why do some washers have water restriction on the outlet of the water valve (like GE Filer Flo) while others have one each of the hot and cold inlets like direct drives? I've never been able to figure out the reason despite the obvious differences.
 
It can be helpful to have separate restrictors for hot and cold - for example where you have a high mains water pressure (cold water) but have a low pressure hot water system - gravity feed hot water tank, or an instantaneous hot water heater. In that case you can remove the flow restrictor on the hot side and leave the cold one in place.

True. Typically, the restrictors, at least in older valves, were simply various sized holes in the plastic. They could not be removed as with say a rubber washer or doughnut. They could de drilled larger though. On the other hand, the restrictor on the outlet could be removed as it was just a rubber doughnut and another rubber piece would keep it pushed down while sealing the cavity.

I'm trying to see which valve is best.

Right now my washer has a 358277 valve which for me is ideal. Nothing is restricted on the valve itself. The only limitation if the plumbing and lever valve in the wall.

The real reason why many companies such as Maytag and GE had a restrictor on the outlet of the valve was because they were trying to control the maximum water flow so the spray rinse wouldn’t overwhelm the pump out ability of the machine while it was spinning, they also did it in the case of Maytag cause Maytag did make Time fill machines and they just kept using the same valves.

The reason for the restrictors on the inlet was for warm water temperature whirlpool belt drive machines typically had a 6040 mix. They were using a high mix of hot water to get a hotter wash later on when they were trying to save hot water. They went to a 50-50 and then they went to a 4060 or 60% of the water approximately was cold pretty simple to figure out Speed Queen went to a 7030 to save hot water. This isn’t rocket science.

I didn't know the answer. Hence why I asked. Stop making assumptions about people's knowledge, motives or inferences.

I do however know that voice to text tends to produce erroneous translations hence why I avoid using it. So I don't know why my own posts wouldn't be clear.

As for GE filter flo I can't see that pump getting bogged down during a 30 second spray.
