Yes, I sure do remember these. Seems like they also had a model that came with a stand and mixing bowl. Interesting design but not sure how they worked. I am guessing mid to late 60"s Terry

Oh yes, remember it well, but never have tried one. The mixing bowl one Terry is talking about, it was more sort of an oblong trough. The mixer hung on the top center and you could rock it back and forth through this oblong trough to mix what was in it.

Presto always had some very interesting products, and are still made just up the road from my Dad in Chippewa Falls, WI.

It says in the auction it was received as a gift in 1972. That sounds about right. I remember our neighborhood hardware store sold them.

The mixer itself

was a pretty good one, CR praised the vertical handle.

They did not like the "bowl" version, which was sold as "Rock n' Mix," however.

This is one of the less silly innovations by Presto.

The mixer just sits on a swivel, Jason, and you rock it back and forth manually. And you could of course remove it for use as a conventional hand mixer.

I, too, have a Rock n' Mix and they were not terribly efficient. It is hard to scrape the sides and bottom without shutting it off and removing it from the trough.

Though not efficient....lot's of fun!

What's worse was trying to incorporate the stuff at either end of the trough because you could only rock those beaters up so far before they started slinging batter all over hell's creation; OOO-WHEE, what a mess! Maybe you were supposed to use a rubber spatula to sorta push the slop at the ends into the slop in the center. It does not look large enough to make a cake from scratch, except for maybe a one egg cake, so maybe it was for box-mix cakes. How that idea made it into production can only be explained by a male only review panel; not that you could get many women to grab hold of that handle in public, let alone ask them to answer questions about how it feels, is it a comfortable size, can you get a good grip on it etc. I can hear someone like Aunt Esther goin' off right now.

Rich

Rich You are so right it doesn't mix too well because it doesn't touch the bottom of the trough at all and like you say You have to either remove the mixer or tilt it to get your spatula to mix the dry mix into the wet mix but yes it is alot of fun to use

Neat mixer! I imagine a design like the rock N mix would work if it was moved longitudally instead of at an angle. Imagine the mixer on a track, and it moved back and forth through the trough using a "rack and pinion" gear drive system or something.

Presto

The handle was supposed to be ergonomically better for the wrist while mixing things. Sort of like the modern day hand immersion blenders. This mixer was in a Doris Day movie and was featured in her modern automatic kitchen. I forget the name of the movie though.

Veg

Hi Veg All I have is the 2 beaters and the cord with mine, I got mine off ebay about 3 years ago and that was the strangest thing because they had like about 4 of them come out after each auction and I was lucky I think my winning bid was like 26.00 and the one before mine wasn't in good shape at all and the winning bid was like 80 somrthing dollars
