I had to do research for a photographer who was working on a Dairy Assn. campaign and contacted the Library because he wanted a picture of this, the first Deep Freeze model because he liked the Art deco fins. I found an ad in an old shelter mag and we sent it off to him. Yes, they were available in both single and double barrel models. The surface area to volume was most efficient with a round chamber and it had something to do with the wrapping of the refrigerant tubes, too, maybe.
You can rest assured that when God decided to have a freezer, this would have been the first one available. For so long, if it was a freezer, it was a Deep Freeze, that the brand name became a generic noun, like Kodak for camera, Frigidaire for refrigerator, Hoover for vacuum cleaner etc. Homes that had a freezer, no matter the brand, had a Deep Freeze.
