Weirdest vintage deep freezer ever

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

It was Cory that found the single freezer model like this.

i had one

It's very cool. It has a belt driven compressor in between the two barrels. It weighs about 400 lbs. Mine ran and cooled, but the compressor had a loud knock.

I hope someone saves it, but that looks like a basement. I would hate to bring one of those up steps.

I had to do research for a photographer who was working on a Dairy Assn. campaign and contacted the Library because he wanted a picture of this, the first Deep Freeze model because he liked the Art deco fins. I found an ad in an old shelter mag and we sent it off to him. Yes, they were available in both single and double barrel models. The surface area to volume was most efficient with a round chamber and it had something to do with the wrapping of the refrigerant tubes, too, maybe.

You can rest assured that when God decided to have a freezer, this would have been the first one available. For so long, if it was a freezer, it was a Deep Freeze, that the brand name became a generic noun, like Kodak for camera, Frigidaire for refrigerator, Hoover for vacuum cleaner etc. Homes that had a freezer, no matter the brand, had a Deep Freeze.

I'm almost certain that my aunts kitchen fridge was a Deep Freeze as well they had their basement freezer but it was conventional looking chest type. They did make fridges as well didn't they? Or am I imagining things

Deep Freeze made refrigerators and, surpise, ranges as well!  I've seen 2 or 3 40-inch electric ranges turn up here in La Belle Province in the past year.

This really is a nifty design, though.  Maybe why they called the Guggenheim building 'the ice cream freezer'.... LOL

The single barrel model was hermetic and the double was belt driven.  Both used R12.  They're awesome.  If it ran and cooled and wasn't down in the basement, I would want it.

There is a small window of opportunity for someone to get this for cheap. It was offered to me for free, I would just need to factor a nominal cost to have it picked up, and stored. If no one speaks up, it likely will get scrapped.

I hope someone gets it!

If the belt drive unit leaked, It would probably be easy to install a new hermetic compressor, but it might work just fine....Sure would be something sitting in a big jitchen!

Very strange looking freezer-if the BD compressor leaks-maybe the seal on the BD compressor needs to be replaced.A refrigeration supplier could help-or HVAC supplier. If you have to replace the compressor-you would have to replace the refrigerant as well.Never seen one of these-who made it?Could the beast be disassembled for transport?
