Here are the pictures of my weekend project. I think it's been sitting for many years. All it needed was a new belt, and a thorough cleaning. Hard water and detergent deposits made like cement to remove.

Interesting that it's designated "1-18" on the unit itself. I wonder how many of them have that?

I have a 1-18 that slows down and speeds up during agitation.
It takes a while to drain water, but gets up to speed perfectly.
In your opinion, do you think it needs a new belt?
If so, how hard is it to replace it?

Every 1-18 I have ever seen has the designation on the control panel somewhere.
GadgetGary, it's common for a slight slowdown on agitation if the load is really big and on spin when the spray rinse is going on. It also is common that it ramps up to spin speed slowly, typically staring the spin cycle on low speed, getting most of the water out and then ramping up to full speed. What I would do in your case is open it up and check the belt, it should have 1/2 inch deflection when you push on it, otherwise it's too loose and needs tightening. Just let me know and I can point you to the instructions, they're here on the site. It also sounds like a roller cleaning could be in order as well, all you need is a good lint free cloth and a bottle of rubbing alcohol, rotate them manually and clean them, see how things go after that. In order to change the belt you must remove all the hoses from the pump, there are four of them and I found that manuvering at the backside of the pump to deal with those standard pinch style clamps was a hellish proposition and I replaced the clamps I removed with an easier to manage band style clamp with nut driver heads.

The agitation starts out strong and then after about two minutes, it slows down and speeds up intermittently.
When the spin starts, sometimes it takes about 1 min before the water starts coming out of the drain hose, then, it drains and goes into a pretty fast spin.
Will try to clean the rollers and see what happens.

I'm not sure what year it's from but if someone can date it for me, it's Model WCK, Serial No. 70EH 9098. It also has the bed of nails filter, making me think it's earlier rather than later.

I thought I had seen every Frigidaire washer ever built but the load selector on this Custom is one I never saw before.It has 4 different agitator views for the water level.
It doesn't really show up well in the pictures but the control panel on this one is like a brushed copper, you can see the strokes in it and man does it really pop!
Does anyone know what all the extra hoses comming from the trap, going to the pump, and one is "T"ed off actually do.......
aside from the 2 big hoses, in/out for drain......and then 2 smaller ones in/out for the filter......and then a "T" off the filter input, and one going into the top of the pump....puzzled....
I got a new belt from PepBoys, they matched one up....aside from those clamps as mentioned, was easier to replace than I thought......for the motor, only remove the front bolts, the rear ones just need loosened, and the motor plate slides forward and off, or will tilt enough to get the belt out and replace....
Brake cleaner, from PepBoys also, works great on the rollers, just line the underneath with paper towels, the spray removes any oils or grease from the rollers while turning by hand, and dries in an instant....will also clean that base pan to a sparkle....

I got one from Darren, fixing a small leak, and should be up and running soon......this is my first one, ever, absolutely amazing machine to watch in motion....fascinating.......videos just don't do it justice!
one thing I am changing on mine is the small drain hose that comes with these......the hose comming up from the pump is a little larger than an inch, so I a trying a new port and larger drain hose to see if it will pump out faster....but still a powerful pump with the small hose and slow speed...

Ok - this might be my favorite 1-18 panel now. Sooooo cool.
Checking the 1921-1977 Frigidaire model index, they do list a WKC for 1977. I'm wondering if it is a typo (not the first I've found) and they meant to list out WCK.
Happy to see they were still proud enough of their product to clearly state "product of General Motors".

the one i have used to slow down as well before i rebuilt it. on mine it was caused by dirty rollers as well as a water leak thru the tub seal which affected the rollers themselves. once i rebuilt it and got that leak stopped it runs perfectly!
