Hi Robert, correct it just drops in you can even use the same wash arms or you can drop in the later PC pup and motor that has the extra filter under the lower wash arm.

 

I have the older system in both my DWs and they work great.

 

With the PC pump and motor you can add the tuning weight that takes all the motor hum out.

It's odd there is no sign of white on white in the brochure and the BOL control dial has a marking for light wash where as my machine has no extra cycle markings what so ever, just pull to start. Maybe my machine is a 1986 model?

As for the reversible color panel on the door I confirmed my suspicion that there is none. I pulled one of the side supports off and sure enough it is simply a white wrap around panel with no way to reverse that panel...

When we moved into our home in ‘94 the DW was a BOL Whirlpool that the sellers bought in ‘91 when they moved into our unit. It was really a very good DW. It had an Almond front panel with a black control panel and bottom panel under the door. I didn’t realize until we’d been here for a while that the panels were changeable when I was cleaning the sides of the door. Underneath the Almond panel, separated by sheets of cardboard were both a black and also a white panel. Once I learned about this I would change them out just for the hell of it.

The only reason I got rid of this DW in 2000 was because the racks were rusting. Also it was pretty loud. But as DW’s go, if was very fast, completing a load in under an hour and cleaned better that the more expensive Maytag MOL that I replaced it with. And the Maytag’s racks began to rust as soon as it was out of warranty and it was just as loud as the WP that it replaced.

I think that this DW was a great find Robert. Sometimes simple is much better. Most people use only the basic cycle anyway. Plus with this DW you can set it to only rinse the dishes if you want, just by turning the dial.

It's great you've found this old NEW stock dishwasher. I don't know how you do it. You find amazing stuff. It's awesome.

 

We all can agree its solid BOL Whirlpool. It will perform great. And they made this dishwasher for several years.

I wonder if this might be slightly newer as the W-o-W, A-o-A, and B-o-B appliance trend didn't really start until the early 90s if I'm remembering correctly.  

Pic is from Fall 91 they still had colored appliances with the black control panels and trim but were starting to add W-o-W.  I'm not sure what the official perameters are.

It's always amazing that there are treasures like this still out there waiting to be found. Glad it was able to go to home that is able to appreciate it!

Just an FYI on upgrading the pump, I upgraded my porcelain tank Ultra Wash to a second revision power clean pump and added the quiet tuned damper. The newer style thunderbolt arm will not work, it strikes the rack rails. On the plastic tank models, there are small cutouts for the wash arm in the rack rails. That being said, a 24 series Hydrosweep will work just fine in it.

Buzzzz the NOS dishwasher is now dead! Barely 70 days use and today the motor just hums and in about 2 seconds cuts out on the motor protector. I suspect it's the motor relay. Does anyone know if a Kitchenaid DW or GE washer motor relay will work in this machine? I'm making an assumption that this DW has an external motor relay I haven't gone in an looked yet.

If it's not the relay then the motor is locked up for some reason, although I kind of doubt that is the problem.
 
Likely has a locked up or stuck motor, relay is in console but is not likely bad, I have boxes of them if you want me to send one.

 

Carefully try turning the fan inside the bottom of motor to see if it is locked up, you can use an Allen wrench if you want.

 

Might be time to up-grade to a Power-Clean module.

Thanks John will do, I'll try to get the motor turning via the fan tomorrow and will report back. I'm really surprised the motor/pump would be locked up already with such little use.

I love, love love simple machines like this! Especially when they are as well built as this machine.

It is possible this model was a builder or contract model. I know GE offered various BOL machines in bulk to home builders that could not be purchased by consumers. Could also be a custom model for a particular store as when price matching was/is involved.

I'm with John, I'm tempted to say you should install a power clean module. The filtration and particle disposal is next level. And yes, I remember that metal tuner in Kenmore machines.

Question- is the wiring diagram and cycle sequence pasted to the inner door? ;)

So I investigated this issue. John I could not find any motor fan at the bottom of this square motor however when I had the motor out I found a water slinger on top of the motor that I could have tested turning the rotor shaft with. So first I took off the spray arm and diffuser and the motor started to work again. There was nothing unusual like foreign waste under the diffuser so I'm not sure what was going on.

What confused me about the diffuser is it seems to have three parts the main diffuser top, a disk below that is aligned by little plastic dowel pins and a round rubber seal. It seems the plastic disk just sits under diffuser top and is not securely connected to the diffuser dowel pins same with the ring seal. I ended up having to take the motor out to reinstall the diffuser assembly because I couldn't turn it down without the disk and seal falling out and not being properly aligned. I did get it all back together and ran a test load, the first wash, rinse and second wash went just fine, it drained after the second wash and the motor was locked up again for the 1st rinse.

I have no idea what is causing the motor to lock up. But now I can barely turn the shaft via the water slinger now. I suspect something in that diffuser may be defective.

Update to thread: I just took the diffuser off again and took some pictures. Pict 1 shows that disk is stuck to the impeller preventing it from turning. Pict 2 and 3 shows the three parts. In Pict 3 you can see how the impeller has scraped up the bottom of the disk. I'm pretty sure that disk is not supposed to separate from the housing. I looked up the part number 301559 and that doesn't come up anywhere. I wonder if I can bond the disk to the housing?

Neat problem

That white desk that’s under the top housing is supposed to be permanently heat welded in place, it came loose and fused on to the wash impeller.

 

Never saw this happen before that’s the fun thing about this business is always something unusual that you see every week.

 

Robert you can either glue or refuse it back together or I can send you the entire top of the pump assembly we have lots of them laying around I never saw nothing Anything ever happened to one, at least until you got one lol
