I had a fire at my building. The fire was not too bad, but I lost almost all of my parts. What I have left is going on the auction block. I don't know what I am going to do next. At some point I'm going to have a sale. If someone wants to come to Grand Rapids with a truck, I'd like to see this stuff get a good home. I just have to wait for the isurance company to release the machines. I'll keep you posted. If anyone else ever has a fire, call me. It is a hellish nightmare, and I'd gladly help anyone who has to go through this.

On a more positive note I saw this:

Gathering

We come together to celebrate washers and laundry and call it a Wash In. Would it help if those of us with available brawn and vehicular endowment gathered for a Wash Up? The shock is so great the full anguish of loss and the callateral assessment may take a few days to settle in. The insurance and fire inspectors usually take sweet time in releasing the site so frustration raises it's angry head. Tell us what you need and how we can support you with clean up, cataloguing, moving, sorting and liquidating. Its a very good time to have friends who care deeply for each other.

Matt, I am so sorry to hear about your fire. This is my worst fear as well.

Kelly has a great idea. Please let us know if we can be of any assistance in this process.

With sadden heart - Mike.

Thanks for all the support. Fires are real nightmares. The fire started in the basement, no one was hurt (even the cat made it out). The damage from smoke was extensive though. I lost my ENTIRE basement, which had 90% of my parts. Faceplates, timers, tons of 1-18 parts. Some of it unreplaceable. All my vacuums and fans, yah I collect them too. The machines in the shop should be OK, so I'm thinking of having a fire sale! I had just become a Speed Queen distributor too, so I had a brand new set in the window. flairs, HP Hallmark, pink KDI 15, KDP 16 portable (I liked the "Patrician" label), some real Maytag and Whirlpool signs and displays. too much to list. I guess I just feel like a fresh start, and want good homes for some of these treasures. I will keep you all posted. Thanks again, I really feel the love!

oh..Mixfinder, I think a Wash Up is a great idea. That's exactly how I feel, and every AW member I have met in person has been wonderful. Nothing better than meeting great new people.

hay matt

sorry to hear about that, thank God you ans your wife and son eddie are all fine, and the cat ofcourse.

i was gonna be giving you a call here soon to see what you had taken in. that pink kd-15 sounded interesting.

i have not done anything to the kelvinator yet! but i will get there eventually! been working on rollermatics all this year. i am starting to put my 1-18 back together so once you sort things out and get back into the swing of things i am interested in some 1-18 parts!

again, glad you are all fine and sorry about the shop!

Matt,
So sorry to hear about your loss! This is terrible.
I hope everything works out for you in your favor.

So sorry for your loss Matt.

I think all of us on here can agree that a fire is something none of us wish to face as vintage things are so difficult and often times impossible to replace. I sure hope that you will soon be through the insurance nightmare and will be able to get back in shape. Thank Goodness you and your family all made it out safe. Best of Luck,
Robyn

Glad to hear you're ok!

It's sad to here things just dissappeared... only thing you can do is to move forward! At some point things will turn out fine... As you see many of us will be there to support you!

:(

Glad to hear everyone is alright. A damn shame about those parts though!

How did the fire start? Just curious so I can add it to my list of preventative measures to eradicate all possibilities.
