Evening all,

Well it's been quite a "Liberating" week to say the least!

One evening last week, I was browsing through some adverts on an Irish classifieds website. Usually, nothing worth speaking of appears but surprise surprise this turns up! A little cottage outside Donegal Town is being renovated and the owners decided to offer this free to anyone who can collect it.

Much to my disappointment, someone already put in a request for it so I simply left a message to say that if the person was a no show may I have second refusal and left it at that. Earlier on this week, I received a message saying that the machine was available to me as the first persons van broke down on both occasions when they went to collect it - oh how the mysterious unseen hand works!

Fast track to this afternoon, myself and a colleague I went to the lovely Donegal Town in her van to collect the machine. About halfway up the famous Barnesmore Gap the weather took a turn for the worst and it was bucketing - not ideal weather to be manoeuvring a bulky washing machine outside. Eventually we turned up at this lovely little cottage 4 miles outside town in the middle of a small meadow. The people there were very happy to hear that it was not going to waste and being restored for use, enjoyed for many more years to come.

So I now have a Hotpoint 1509/05, what a week, after it beginning with a Hotpoint 1826! I haven't had much time to inspect it but as you can see, those lovely buttons are more or less intact bar the white one going yellow. The cottage had very little sunlight coming into it and was quite dingy like most cottages are so that's worked in my favour. It's also very nice to see that it comes with its worktop and the ring for the filter tray which often goes missing, no user manual though. The cabinet needs resprayed/replaced and the console wrapped needs resprayed - Peugeot Midnight Blue must be purchased! Internally, the drum looks lovely, it's a dark blue with speckles. It will probably need overhauled but I'll know for sure tomorrow when I plug it in and fill with some water.

Hopefully this will turn out to be another lovely addition and may the Liberators continue to surface!

James

Purple haze!

Where are the smelling salts! :-)

With it being a white lid machine, I beg an answer to the question 'what version is it? 1509/01, 1509/02 or 1509/05?

Definitely Peugeot Midnight blue, if it is still available. It really is a match that captures really well the original colour scheme.
However, don't be put off by the colour when it is wet, as it looks ..... well .... not at all right.

1509/05

Stupid dippy me for not reading properly - tiz a 1509/05.

My bodyshell was totally written off, being completely rusted through around the chassis base and rust flowers all over the place.

Fingers crossed yours will be touch uppable.

Paint

HI James again. If you are interested in paying the return postage and primer costs, I could paint up your consoles, as I have some paint left over from when I sprayed my 1509. It's 2 pack so quite nasty stuff but very hard wearing.

Well done James. Another great machine for the collection and great that it comes with the filter ring as the service manual states that these were only provided to a limited number of machines. Hopefully all will be fine and no leaks but even if they are, you've had good experience with this so should be a doddle! Look forward to more pics and updates.

I am curious as to what is behind the machine - looks like something in pieces but can clearly see a pressure switch?
