Lidl is a separate company from Aldis.

Don't bother! I went one time and was overcharged $12.00! You have to bag your own groceries and that took my attention for watching the prices. Getting a refund meant having to send my receipt to Customer Service with the wrong prices circled and documented. The store manager could do NOTHING! IT's also not a full-line store and seems to think that we need groceries mingled among clothes and an assortment of clothes and perfumes! Won't be going back! Wilmington has more than 8 different chains servicing the metro area, including Whole Foods. won't miss this one...Greg
Until a couple years ago, ALDI stores in the USA had the FOOD MARKET signage. ALDI no longer puts it on new stores and removes it from stores during an inside and outside remodel.
Lidl is doing just the opposite. The prototype store in the link above adds the FOOD MARKET branding which wasn't on their first stores in the USA. The overall appearance as well seems to mimic ALDI.

There are a few items
from Aldi I like. The Deutsche kucke spaetzel, sour kraut, and cookies from Germany when they have them. The kraut they always have. Their hot cocoa K cups are good too, and just 60 calories. Some of the German and Polish chocolate are good too.
Rite Aid had Russel Stover asstd. They are good! chocolates for $8.99- the big box. Very good! I want to try See's candy, but the local reviews of freshness are poor. Too long in storage perhaps?

Lidl is another german discount chain.
And announced its entering in the USA a few years ago.
To be honest I prefer much more lidl than Aldi here in Italy it's much more furnished and I love how they always stop particular food and products you don't find elsewhere.
Detergent wise i prefer Aldi though.
Lidl have lotta stores and distribuition throughout Europe more than Aldi do.
They do special week offers related to countries, you have the Spanish week the German week the British week etc that sell typical delikatessen from those countries.
Meaning that during German week I will find some good and different wursts and and black forest Ham, or during the Spanish week I will find my beloved tetilla cheese (tit cheese, that is the closest my mouth will go to a tit
) or Serrano Ham and original Chorizo, and during the British waeek some good aged British cheddar or shortbreads and lot of other things and that you just would not find sold anywhere unless is a shop specialized in foreign food..And that's thanks to the huge distribuition and companies they have making the stuff made for all the Lidl's in all Europe countries.
Because what you find commonly sold in a german Lidl is not exactly the same stuff you find in an Italian Lidl etc...
If they also will do that in USA I'm sure it will be a huge hit.

tried to enter the US market, but did not take off. Aldi owns Trader Joe's, the upscale stores too.
I heard that Tesco was coming to certain test markets with their smaller express format. Kroger has the market sewn up here nationally for now besides Walmart. That is Asda in the UK.

I do all my main grocery shopping at Aldis.
Other than them, it's Walmart or Food Lion.
The things I don't care for from Aldi's is their ice cream (it just tastes too bland), their baked beans, their potato chips(which I don't buy anymore from any place, so....), and....that's about it.
In addition to all the other foods I buy, I love their McDonald's style egg McMuffins sold frozen 4 in a box for $3.99.
The stores are clean, no-non sense, no music, walk-able, the carts are always returned to the store so they aren't floating around the parking lot, I can always find boxes for packing my groceries, the checkers scan really fast, the people working there are friendly. I've never had any problems.
I'm thinking of going to Lidl this weekend and filming what I can for a friend in the UK who's always stopping at his local Lidl store. Thought I'd make a vid showing what it's like here. [this post was last edited: 2/11/2021-17:13]

I mostly agree - I do half my shopping ad Aldi the balance at Krogers. Produce is good and well priced, meat is fine, diary other than eggs is fine also. Coffee not so much, paper product are OK but not my preferred stuff.

Aldi is great! The pasture raised eggs are a great bargain! $2.80/ dozen with d orange yolks and thick shells. Their cheese, produce, meat, and canned goods are all great. Of course, they don't have much in the way of fresh herbs, so Kroger get's that business. I enjoy the giant bar codes that allows that super fast scanning.
