Hello everybody. I remember when I went to Wells Laundry with my mom in the 90's. When we walked in, we could smell the pleasant, warm, fresh, damp air. They had a lot of Dexter washers and dryers. There were also Maytag top loaders there as well. I would watch all the washers and dryers in action. I actually thought the dryers were ironing clothes as they were drying them. The washer sounded like a water fight was going on inside during the wash and rinse cycles. When it was draining, it sounded like somebody was frying something. And during the spin, it sounded like a blender. The dryers sounded like microwaves running. I actually thought the clothes must have been having a dance party in the washers and dryers. What are your memories of going to any Laundromat?

Well Jerome, I havnt been in one since the mid 70's because it was full of yacky women in curlers that let their kids run everywhere. But there were many of them in the city I grew up in. Maytag Highlander Centers, Norge Villages and independents with Speed Queen's and others with Dexter and Cissal gas dryers. We also had Snow White Westinghouse laundries where a nice lady in white did your wash, folded it and you would pick it up. Self-serve was 20-25 cents to wash and 10 cents for 20 minutes of drying. I miss the ones with the self-service dry cleaning. I have no need to ever go to one now as anything I need to wash fits fine in my Maytag.

What are your memories of going to any Laundromat?
... a pain for me. Not having a car back then... going by bike/foot/bus was a pain in the a**. Once I got a car it was nice. It's the waiting that killed me. Best advantage... could wash/dry/fold 5 loads in less than 1 and 1/2 hour.
