Well, I cant believe I actually considered getting a new stove, after looking at both new gas and electric ranges, im absolutely certain that nothing new will ever set in my kitchen, I could not believe the poor workmanship and lack of basic features offered, one new ge gas range priced at 700 dollars had a bad stamping on the inner oven door, amazingly it made it all the way thru enameling and assembly, this was a very visible defect, about a 2 inch long crease , the door gasket was installed right over this, no one could miss it, even me and right now I cant see worth a darn, Donald, who doesent cook, said, that's a big hunk of garbage, then the electric ranges ….most of the high end models have hidden bake units, a terrible design that didn't work well for Hotpoint in the late 40s when they first invented it, all in all, im either going to move my 59 Westinghouse in the kitchen, or just keep looking for vintage, im more convinced than ever this countrys best days are far behind her , especially where consumer goods are involved. NOT one range had a fluorescent light, which I consider a absolute must have feature!

I wish they would at least put a light on ranges these days. You're right, no ranges have that. The closest to that is an LED accent light on some, not much use though.

When we looked at stoves, I found the GE felt like it was the heaviest built in an electric range. That probably doesn't mean much though. lol

First thing the other half noticed on our new GE stove.. no fluorescent hood light LOL. I'm more miffed about no electrical outlet on either side. I used those on the old one quite often because we don't have an outlet on the left between the stove and the sink. But I'm really loving the induction burners. The heat control is amazingly fast up and down. I haven't baked any bread in it yet to see how that goes.

I Love My GE Basic 30” Electric Stove

it is BOL, and just what I wanted. The burners are fast to heat and cool down, the oven bakes evenly and the broiler is excellent! I can broil with the door closed and this keeps the house from being stunk up with smoke and cooking odors. I like that the oven control is an old school dial, not digital. It doesn’t have a clock or timer, but we have a nice clock on the wall and I have a great battery operated digital timer that has a magnet on the back, so I just attach it to the control panel when I’m timing something.

The oven is manual clean, but I use the oven or broiler almost every day and only need to clean it about once every 6 months, and it only takes about 35 mins of concentrated effort, and again no smoke in the house from running a self clean oven.

I would agree, the vintage stoves are definately a higher quality build, but this GE is pretty darn good for a new stove.

Sometimes to the point of neurosis.
