well yeah for westinghouse

I smoke and have tried to quit, I was some ticked when my last nissan did not have an ashtray.Wonder if that lady was in an ambien induced trance cooking and smoking.....goodnight.

If they only would have shown the Emporer Plus model, you would have seen the dandy attachment for freebasing cocaine. Great picture, and so totally of its time.

I have heard smokers justify having a gas range because they light their cigarettes from the burner.

One electric range from the 30s, I believe, gave you the option of having, in the center of the control panel, either a two slice toaster or a radio.

Way too cool, remember when life was simple?

It aint today, try smoking a cig in public-- WOW I get all the looks I used to wish I would get in the bar!

OMG that is too much, "midnight snacks" and "smoking" two ways to kill ya dead! I just love that.

David, when I was your age I would have snapped that BongIron up in a heartbeat, LOL!
Me too Eugene.

Interesting, they don't put lighters in vehicles anymore, they put "accessory outlets" They are basically lighter sockets that can't take the heat of an actual lighter, and don't come with one anyways!

My niece and her husband have a party planning book from the

I can't remember if it was from Sunset, Good Housekeeping or Better Homes and Gardens.

It includes thoughtful party touches like filling salad or punch bowls with packs of cigarettes and the importance of strategically placed ash trays. A photo shows nearly every adult with a cigarette while children snack and play IN THE SAME ROOM.

How times have changed. :)

Greg,
What a great picture!!!
Where did you get that? Or of an ad?
She looks like a big ole dyke that just got out of prison!!!
What is attractive about this feature?
I love it.
Thanks for posting!
Brent

And the cigarette looks like a non-filter brand too! She looks like a rough lady. Not the type of gal you would use to demonstrate "The Sheer Look" thats for sure!! Bet she rolls her own....

I was an ad for cigarettes on an old magazine once at an antique store. It showed an attractive girl and guy smoking cigarettes, and the caption read:

LUCKY'S!
THEY REALLY WILL MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER

LOL!!

Winston tastes good like a cigarette should,
Winston tastes good like a (clap clap) cigarette should.

There's a cigarette commercial featuring Fred Flinstone and Barney Rubble. The Flinstones were prime time TV and they pitched cigs.

In Chalmette, LA where I grew up, everyone was "smoking a 'berl", meaning "Marlboro" only pronounced "Merl berl". See what I had to grow up with? Ignorant people who were rough, mean, and could hardly talk through their goofy New Orleans accent.

That is too cool....

And times have indeed changed. To think that an appliance came with a lighter back then, when now....well, to get a lighter in my car i had to pay for the "smokers package" which also included the ashtray.

What became of the model in the photo

It was a dark and stormy night long ago. Louise, left one of those Camels smoldering on her kitchen table. She was reduced to living in a motel until her house was rebuilt. But she's happier now, having discovered Jose Cuervo!

If you look closely in the ad, you'll see that the nicotine addict lady is probably the maid.

I smoked for years and was totally healthy by every measure. I finally quit in my mid forties, only to gain an enourmous amout of weight, which turned me into a rotund POS with diabetes and high blood pressure. I wonder sometimes which is really more healthy.

Ab Fab

Theres a funny episode where Edina is complaining about the clutter in her kitchen and how she can't see her surfaces and her cooker and how she can't cook on her stove! Her daughter Saffy says something like " What for you only use it to light your cigarettes with it!"
