Westinghouse dryer from the 50's

Hi. My friend had me keep an old dryer in my basement that his sister bought for him about ten years ago. Fast forward ten years and I ask him when he's going to come pick it back up. He told me I can keep it. It's a 1950's Westinghouse. From what I've read online it's NOT the fancy one that plays "How dry I am."

When he dropped it off, he told me it worked. I unplugged my regular dryer and plugged this one in and my breaker tripped. Any idea why?

Did the breaker trip before you even tried to start it, like as soon as you plugged it in? If so, that mean a direct short inside.

Hopefully you own an ohmmeter. An instant-trip short shouldn't be hard to find.

It's handsome. We had the chevron door washer but the square door dryer, no window.

In use these tend to accumulate lint at the bottom between the inner and outer drums; go behind the 'smile' panel with a coathanger.

That's a very nice look with the black trim around the knobs.  Very much worth fixing, and it's probably an easy fix.
