Today Steve and myself went to a couple garage sales and came across this Westinghouse dryer. The lady says it works except the timer. Its a 110v dryer. I couldn't resist so we brought it home with us.

neat find!

As the tag shows, it would work on either 115 or 230 volts. If the timer does not work, it is probably safer to use on 115. Note absence of a lint catcher. This is one of those dryers that flocked your lawn or shrubs. When this dryer was stacked, it was turned upside down so the dryer dial was right above the washer dial. The aluminum trim piece was removed and repositioned so that the writing was right side up. The timer dial also had to be repositioned 180 degrees.

WHITE WESTINGHOUSE SPACE MATE DRYER

I recently found one of these dryers and restored it to good working order, but it still needs a paint job. This is the first dryer our family of six got in 1957, it worked very well but it didn't hold up well. It was repaired at least six times and was replaced buy a 1964 Kenmore 70 electric dryer that never broke down.

Lint trap (?)

Interesting dryer and a rare find to boot! On the door it says to "Clean lint trap frequently." You can see right through the vent to the back of the drum. Where is the filter? Is it missing?

There was a box that could be mounted on the rear of the dryer to house a lint filter, but I think that was for if it was not vented. I don't think the exhaust hose or pipe could be attached to that box, but my memory is hazy about that.

WESTINGHOUSE SPACE MATE DRYER

Yes this is a positive air flow dryer and it can leak a lot air out around the front & rear felt drum seals along with lots of lint. The 1950s WH slant front dryers were also positive air flow dryers but there was a second steel shell around the dryer drum so it was much sealed against air leakage and therefor didn't make nearly the mess of lint.
