$259.95 was the price plus tax of $7.80 ! 18th of July 1955! Wow that's a lot of tax for 1955. That is a 1954 model BTW. So I bet it was discounted if they were aware of that fact.
However, I think the MSRP was $259.95.

If it was purchased on 7/18/55, they got it the day before I was born!
In addition to a sales tax, major appliances used to be subject to an excise tax which was another term for a luxury tax. A lot of lobbying went into getting the tax repealed, according to the trade publications.

I drove all the way out there ( 130 miles ) for nothing. Seller said was working 1 week before she picked it up. I asked to plug it in and she says, " I didn't check to see if it worked". I took the back panel off to see what kind of shape it was in..... It was terrible. It might have ran a week before you got it, 30 years ago!!! Everything was seized up and rusted like it was sitting in a field for 40 years. Don't advertise that something works if you have no idea.

OH well you went the distance for sure. But of all the vintage washers and dryers these are the ones that keep popping up over and over.
So its a good bet you'll find a working one. In the meantime we need to get those boots into production !!

Geez, that's a shame alright... However if the door boot was still any good, it might have been worth grabbing that!

Hi, you might want to give us the link or actual thread number. I don't think that 777684 is the thread number, it's the posting number. If I'm wrong, then you're right, there's no 777684 thread, as I searched so I could post a photo of it for you.
