What would you do...

Morning All,

I recently posted that I had shipped from Italy to the UK a brand new Westinghouse LTF600 washer dating from the mid-60's, whilst the boot gasket needs replacing which I have managed to source a replacement I am wondering if I need to do anything before switching the machine on for the first time ? would a any parts needs greasing / oiling ? filling with warm water and soaking to allow parts to re-hydrate ? any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Checking Over a New Mid 60S Westinghouse Washer

Hi Keith, I would remove the pack panel and check that everything moves freely and maybe put a few drops of light machine oil on the idler idler pulley bearing, rear pump idler bearing and the rear helix spring behind the large black center pulley. You just remove the 1/2"bolt in the center and it lifts off easily [ this spring was greased at the factory but a few drops of light oil will rejuvenate the grease ]and reassemble.

 

I would also poor about a gallon of very hot tap water in the tub and let it sit for at least 30 minutes.

 

We can't wait to hear how it goes.

Did one have to fork out an arm and a leg to get that machine over to the UK?

Not too bad, about £300 / €350.

I’m jealous,

Over here it would cost about $1500 just to get a 55 kg machine imported and that was if it already was all mounted to the crate and all that good stuff

Morning John.L,
Well i have finially got round to replacing the boot on the Westinghouse LTF-600.
The manual says no wrinkles ? Whilst the boot lip looks a little wavy i did everything according to what the manual says..does this look ok ??
The door needs a bit of pressure now to close it, i guess until the boot settles down.
Now for a test hopefully next weekend.

Three belt Westinghouse front load washer

Yay Keith, glad you’re getting this project going. Will be exciting to see what you think of this machine.

It’s a little crude, but a good performer it was the only frontload washer. We really had here in the states for a long time we used to have some diehard customers it would always have a front loader and like these machines a lot.

I have seen machines were the door boot is sort of puckered and wrinkled a bit like that. Not sure what causes that in theory it was not supposed to be like that but I don’t think it’ll hurt anything. Maybe some good hot washes will make it calm down a little bit ,

Anxiously awaiting to see how it works.
