SS United States
It really was nice,it had been closed up since 1969 when it was opened back up in 1985.A fellow named Hadley bought it and tried auctioning all of the things on it.That was a bust.My friend and I went almost every weekend and explored the ship from the prop shafts to the top of the front smokestack.Westinghouse had the contract to provide all of the electrics on the ship,we bought fans and all kinds of things.Even had 2 1950s Raytheon Radar ranges on it.They were 220 and huge. Industrial types. It didnt have the glamour like the Queen Mary or warmth.Very modern.Sometimes I still find china or furniture from it at the thrift shops, even cabin phones. They dont know what they have usually. There were probably 25 or so of those washers scattered about, even one in the smokestack so the officers could do small amounts of laundry for themselves. Thanks Bobby
