I have several NOS Westinghouse Parts that I would like to get to people that need them but I don't really know what they are. If I posted pictures, do you think most people on here would be able to identify them?

No, these came out of an estate sale in Lakewood of an appliance repairman. Did Modern get broken into or go out of business?

Last I heard, Modern was still in business with family members assuming the operation after Larry's passing a year or two ago.

Jeff440, If you are planning to sell those timers, you should connect them to power and make sure they work first.  It would seem over time, especially with non-use, the windings in the timer motors may fail and the timer motor won't run/work.

Below is the link to a thread in which an Ingraham timer motor was very skillfully repaired.

Modern

That is just so sad.  It's not like family members didn't know our group existed and that at least few of us within reasonable distance would have been happy to actually pay for a lot of what was tossed, or otherwise taken all of that "junk" off their hands.

Revvinkevin,

I don't know that I have the ability to evaluate whether or not they were working properly even if they were connected to electric. These were all in their original unopened boxes when I got them but I am sure it is possible they might not work.

On the other hand, I'm not looking to make a killing on these. If someone said they needed one of these for an appliance they had and that it would be worth $2 to them, I would sell it to them for $2 - plus $5 shipping or whatever it would be.

So yes, I have no reason to believe these are worth $25 or $50 or more and I have no expectation of getting that. It's just that they aren't doing me (or anybody else) any good sitting here.

Modern Parts

What! That is just so sad. Larry must be turning over in his grave.

Am not one to speak out of turn but the least they could have done was reach out to the community; am sure one or some of us would have clubbed together for the vintage parts.

Yet another fine resource for vintage appliance parts and knowledge gone. Could sit down and weep at this new; when you think of what Larry used be able to pull out of that place.

Modern Parts Sold

Many of us did buy stuff over the years, and we all  knew Larry passed away and his wife Sharron was there selling parts for over a year before the place was sold [ and she was practically giving stuff away ], no one can have any excuses for not going and buying anything they wanted.

Yes it is a shame that I lot of stuff went in the dumpster, but how many of you were willing to drive to Ohio and retrieve it and do anything with the parts.

In response to Jeff's 2nd post it is another timer, I have no idea what this one fits. As he stated these NOS timers are practically worthless unless you need it, and several people that tried selling NOS timers on Ebay have found this out.

We probably have over 100 NIB timers for WP-KM BD washers and I will be lucky to use even two of these timers in the next 10-20 years or otherwise find homes for them.

I spoke to Larry one time

I had a wonderful conversation with Larry one time on the phone. I did not have a lot of cash at the time or I would have made the trip to see his shop.

It was common knowledge by Larry and his family that this group existed. I'm surprised that they did not post that the shop was selling and the parts would be available for a blowout price. I realize that there are a lot of members here that are not very interested in putting forth effort to get something. If I would've known that there was going to be a last call at modern parts I would've made that trip.

Apparently John you realized that this was going on and you did not even post yourself. I can understand not posting about parts being available when the parts are things that you wish to have yourself, but when the parts are in excess of what you want it should be your responsibility to mention it to someone else. I find it sad that all of this is gone away. I am not surprised though, sometimes people just want to move on.

For Shame!

Well stated, Travis.  If AW members knew Modern was closing, why didn't they say something about it here?

No, I would not have made the trip, but I know there are enough members within reasonable distance that would have, instead of just a select few.

A sense of betrayal is quite justified among those who would have made the pilgrimage to Parma.

Many of us talked about Larry's passing and I talked about my trip there buying parts earlier this year, there was no attempt to keep this a secret.

I had been to Larry's over 20 times and every time I found more good stuff, and I spent well over three thousand dollars if not 5 thousand over the years. I remember how annoyed Larry was when about 12 or 15 AW members descended on MPs during a Vac convention a half dozen years ago and only myself and one other person bought anything.

This is after a business, and it is still in is, I have checked and the folks that bought MP still has many of the vintage parts for sale, all you have to do is call or visit.

My apologies

I didn't mean to suggest that we work together to save parts for each other.  I have worked so hard to save things from being thrown away.  I guess I have wasted a lot of time.  It costs absolutely nothing to post here and let others know about the availability of appliances and parts.

Ah...Good idea. I'll post a pile in a couple days. I have less than 20 parts I would guess. Mostly timers, I think.
