"A working set", uh huh sure it does...

Only believe that when you see it. It is extremely rare to find a washer that "works" when it is that old. Usually something needs to be done and almost anything can be fixed with enough perseverance. Even that beautiful KitchenAid dishwasher I found a few months back that looked like it had only been used once or twice had both a problem with leaking and a timer issue that needed to be address. These were most likely caused by sitting without use. These issues didn't show up at first, but within a week I started to notice problems.

While my eyes could be playing tricks on me but it appears that the door boot might be missing on the washer.

This is a beautiful set, the price certainly is right and it could be a fun restoration, but experience has shown us about what happens when an uninformed sellers claim "it works".

Good point, Robert!

Hmmm. That sitting without running for a while has got me thinking - I bought a set of 1956 GE appliances including a washer-dryer combo (looks like a WD-1, but I could be wrong) and dishwasher. It is currently in storage until spring, but I have looked it over and the belts, gaskets, and hoses look to be intact. I am thinking that I should find some way to test these before I install them - is there anything specific that I should do before a test drive??

Robert, tsk-tsk-tsk, always so gloomy about these vintage gems. It looks fine to me - a new cord some "touch up paint" and a little closed-cell foam and washday is a GO!

Seriously though, Robert is right - these will need some work, just like they all do. At least the staring price is realistic on this set. Very good restoration candidates though - a call to Larry in Cleveland and who knows?

The door boot does look missing - probably laying inside the tub or it's turned to dust and sprinkled over the lower panel...
