Westinghouse Wall Mounted Refrigerator

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

That was the color of the Westinghouse kithen across the street from us that our former neighbors bought that were responsible for us moving too.

Wow!

So George had a competing wall mount that could compete with GE! Pity wall mounts like these fell out of favor. Conventional big box fridges demand too much space, and having worked in many restaurants I like the idea of having a variety of small units in convenient locales that can be replaced easily and can be set at different temperatures.

...and the Sub-Zero drawers are just too ridiculously expensive.

This the first time I’ve ever seen a Westinghouse Wall fridge! I didn’t even know that they had made them. I always thought that the GE Wall fridges were really the last word in a modern AEK (all electric kitchen) of the 50’s.
Too bad we don’t have similar offerings for convenient refrigerators today, I think they’d sell like hotcakes for new builds and remodels.

Thanks Louie for posting these photos.

I'm surprised that these have not been noticed in the various Westinghouse ads for their late 50s washers and dryers where they show kitchen shots. If these companies had continued to make these, they might have been able to transition into thin wall insulation and frost free refrigeration systems. Revco also made a smart pair of wall mounts, but they were deeper, wider and taller and were recessed instead of wall mounted. to line up with wall cabinets which really reduced capacities.

First I've seen or heard of this Westinghouse refrigerator. I have some 1957 BH&G magazines with Westinghouse ads, but not the one shown. I didn't see the color name mentioned in the ad, but it is called "Mint Aqua". The wall oven is 30" wide, and uses the same door and interior as the Imperial 30 range.

IMO

The wall hung idea is an interesting one, but it's too shallow.
A standard wall cabinet is only 12" deep. If you try and do a frig that's similar with the necessary insulation on the back, and the door, and door shelves....too small.

Where as the floor standing "standard" oversized 30" deep refrigerators we know too well, is TOO Deep. Plus the bottom 24" to 36" of a refrig isn't efficient for use.

Small frigs are about 19" wide x 18" deep and anywhere from 24 to 36" tall. 1.4, 2.6, & 4.5 c.ft are the typical sizes available in both frigs and all-freezers. These days they have glass shelves, a lighted interior, and reversible doors.

Setting them on top of a standard 25" counter top, even two of them side by side provides ideal refrig space. Not too deep you'll loose things in the back and not too shallow you have to be concerned if something will fit. They're also inexpensive, easy to move, and energy efficient.

Not in this Italian Household....

We would need to cover the countertops with them.
