Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

My Papaw had a Westinghouse for a short time between the times he had the two Filter-Flo's. It was either MOL or BOL, but it seemed to have plenty of features for what was needed. It had a straight-vane agitator, but was complete with the counter-clockwise tub indexing and the lint filter tray.

I actually had a question about the brochure in the POD where it states "The wash tub indexes in one direction while the agitator agitates and indexes in the opposite." I know that the tub indexes, but I always thought the agitator, while oscillating, still turns along with the tub, as to prevent wrapping and twisting. For example, if you could somehow mount a camera to the tub, pointed towards the agitator, the agitator would move back and forth to the same points as though the tub wasn't actually moving. I know that's how it is with the Frigidaire tub-indexers, and I assume they took that design through some kind of company buyout.

The only part of that design

That was bad..was to put the pump on TOP of the motor!!!DUMB!,.,other than that, those things really wash well.

~65-88 westy

westy tranny different from franklin-franklin's rotates with tub,the westy one looks kinda like a filter-flo tranny. One feature I don't like about the westy design is the tiny clutch belt-franklin's clutch belt much more robust.I have seen a few older versions of the westy design with a solenoid on the clutch belt idler for a neutral drain.
