I was surfing the net tonight and came across the Westinghouse website, complete with you can be sure if it's Westinghouse. Could they have come back fro the grave of White Consolidated Industries?

Well...

...not really.

Westinghouse appliances was sold to White-Consolidated, who, in turn, had to change the marque to White-Westinghouse, because Westinghouse's other divisions continued to be owned by other corporations.

The Westinghouse "W" trademark logo and "You can be sure..." slogan was retained by Westinghouse Electric Corporation, which bought (and became) CBS, then when Viacom acquired CBS, the part that wasn't spun off retained rights to and actively licenses the Westinghouse name, logo, and advertising slogans to several different companies--but no major appliance makers.

Complicated! The link shows you the convoluted brand history.

Re: White-Westinghouse

The answer to your question, Is White-Westinghouse owned by Electolux? the answer is yes. They also own Tappan, Gibson, Kelvinator, Philco. In Australia and Great Britian it is known only as just Westinghouse. I hope this is helpful PeterH770. Oh, before I sign off they also own several companies in Europe, like AEG, Zanuzzi and of course Electrolux just to name a few. If you think that they own alot you should look up Whirlpool and see all the companies they own or have their hands into. By for now. Danf.

Well

That is kinda complicated, and i was hoping that Westing house was making a come back, oh well, i guess not in my life time, but i would give my left nut " no puhn intended" to find a Westinghouse top loader. So basically the Westinghouse website, with all the ceiling fans, TV's, light bubls, are not really Westinghouse products?

Westinghouse bought and became CBS Corporation, are you talking about the television broadcasting network, that i am familiar with today CBS? Surely they did not buy a TV broadcasting company. it's all confusing to me.

First for Speed Queen, then for Hydralique...

It's a long story that people in the Pittsburgh area know quite well. To make it short, Westinghouse was a diverse company that had a broadcasting division - Westinghouse Broadcasting. They owned KDKA here in Pgh and KDKA radio was the first radio station ever. Toward the end, they maybe owned about 20 stations throughout the country. Later, WH bought the CBS Corporation in the 80s but eventually what happened is that, with their industrial divisions not making much money, one of the CEOs switched the name of the company to CBS to concentrate on the most profitable business. Westinghouse as an independent corporation "died" as of 1997, when the flag was taken down at the Pittsburgh headquarters (I was told by someone at the Westinghouse museum that people actually cried when that happened). Later, under the CBS name, more divisions were sold off and the only part left of the original Westinghouse in this area is the nuclear power division which is actually part of Toshiba. In fact, there are more abandoned facilities that have the circle W logo than there are active places. The company, probably CBS, licenses the Westinghouse name and logo to other companies for lamps and digital TVs - actually manufactured by another company.

Hydralique, I still think that no matter what color, the AP1000 still stands out over the landscape like a dunce cap. I wonder how many utilities are turned off by the look and may end up buying the Areva reactor because it is better looking and hard to not see. I know I would!
