Yes, I just bought out an amazing hoard of vintage parts. 40+ boxes of stuff. A lot of the stuff is junk, but I was able to pull a few gems.

Keep in mind that I bought all of this stuff (good and bad), I had to haul it out of a basement , transport to my shop, catalog, and list. All this costs serious money.

As I have no comparison, I kind of invented a price. I'll wait for a few more offers to roll in and make a decision. I believe there may be one more, but it's temporarily misplaced.

I still have the turquoise set on display at my store. It's not really for sale, unless someone plops down a ridiculous number. I have been slowly gathering nos parts for them so eventually I can do a proper restore to them.

Just going through your vintage parts on ebay - you do have some nice stuff.  Nothing is free and ebay takes their "fair" share as well.  I hadn't sold anything for quite a while and when I got the bill, ouch.  I guess that's the price for the big marketplace and exposure too.  First place I go looking when searching for a Westy door boot

Did some selling awhile back after a *VERY* long absence

Was shocked at how much of a cut eBay takes these days. They even take a percentage of shipping charges. Have UPS and USPS account so stopped using the built in system on fleaPay.

Then PayPal takes a cut of both funds received, and transferred out if you want cash. You can save some money by leaving things there but that is giving PP free money. Haven't sold anything since eBay and PP split, so not sure if they take cut of payment is you use their system.

All and all it explains why so much rubbish is being offered for very high prices on eBay. After all is said and done you can end up losing money on deals.

The eBay / pp fees work out to 13% of the total amount. Today I sold a rear tub for a front load washer for $100.

- 13 fee
- 6 box and padding
- 52 shipping to Oregon!

Total profit- $29.

I also employ 7 people, and like to think I pay them somewhat of a livable wage.

Ebay takes quite a cut.  You have to be certain that your shipping sizes and weights are close or it comes out of your cut.  The last time I sold something, ebay took 11% and then the buyer used Paypal so they took a couple more.

Did you really sell something like that with free shipping?  As a seller, I would think free shipping is a recipe for disaster.

 

I have quite a collection of boxes and shipping supplies.  It's quite irritating and expensive to round those up when you're selling stuff.

Yes, most, if not all of my items are free ship. Or rather, shipping included. I have found that selling parts on eBay is all about price. Sometimes it really sucks, like that tub I just sold, mostly it works out fine.

We are averaging about 10-20 sales / shipments per day, so even though the margins are a bit teeny, the numbers seem to be making up for it.
