Ok, I'm bored and tired of cleaning. I can't watch the Pacer game because we don't have any players. So I decided to take a picture of the fan/heater in our bathroom! Has anybody ever seen this before? It's not on ebay. Which I thought everything was! (besides my pink w/d LOL) Our house was built in 29. I really don't think it's that old though. I'm thinking 50's. Check out the plug!
Ya, I know it's filthy! I'm going to take it apart and strip the paint anyhow!

Fans

I collect old fans and I think this one is older than the 50`s. It very well could be original to the house. Love the colors by the way!

Wow, cool Westy heater/fan! In our bathrooms we have boring porcelain Peerless gas heaters--first time I've seen a fan-forced electric installation! Is it 110 or 220?

Definitely a keeper! I bet it's going to look good after a cleaning!

Short story

I was told that the man that built the house was the person that invented commercial refrigeration. His name was Quillen.
When we moved in five yrs. ago there was a giant freezer in the room that is going to be the new kitchen. It was 10ft long 4ft deep and probably 4ft tall. It had tons of copper tubing lining the inside.Four doors on top that opened up on hinges. The doors were so heavy you could barely lift them. Someone said that they thought it was cooled by propane. Sounded odd to me but I guess you never know. After my husband left one night to go play music and a six pack later! Myself and a friend of his decided to cut it up and get it out! Well, half way through and twenty trips up the stairs later I noticed little hairs floating on top of the dogs water bowl! The room almost looked like it was filled with smoke it was so dusty. I get a phone call from my husband checking in ( He's always afraid I'm going to rip a wall out or something while he's gone! )He asked what I was up to and I told him. Then I told him about the dust! He informs me that I just contaminated the house with asbestos! There were seven layers of that surrounding this thing in sheets. When you tried to pick it up the piece would crumble. So we sprayed it down after the dreaded phone call and had to scoop it up with shovels. I saved the hardware from it. They will probably use it to make my coffin out of! LOL. Anyhow, there is still a big walk-in cooler/freezer at the bottom of the stairs. It has a massive door. It has one of those round push handles on the inside. It's staying. Might make a good bathroom someday! Ok, I'm done rambling! One more thing! In the upstairs bathroom there is a knob at the sink that says ice-water and it comes from the cooler. Pretty advanced for 29 don't ya think.
And Austin it's 220.

I remember those from my Aunts house (a huge rambling affair) in Brooklyn, NY when I was a kid. They were not new then, so I think they must date back to the '40's or even '30's. Real kool to see one again!

asbestos

It should be noted that abestos while not that dangerous if left alone, becomes very dangerous when it becomes airborne or(fryable). You should take all precautions when dealing with anything old with insulation. I`m not an expert, but I am sure there are plenty of websites that have information on this subject. Don

Wow, sounds really cool! Can we see a picture?

Although I must admit that I wouldn't have tried cutting it up: 1. Might contain asbestos (which it did...LOL) 2. Might still work if hooked up to propane! How much damage did you do to the cooler? From the description you could probably re-insulate the walls, install a commercial electric refrigeration unit, and re-connect the "ice water" lines! That's what I would do, IMHO.

Oops!!! I didn't realize there were two coolers in your house, the giant asbestos-lined chest freezer that you removed, and the walk-in cooler. When I asked for a picture, I meant one of the walk-in cooler.

Does this one work, and what is it powered by? Would be cool to get running again, making "ice water" available!

This is the one that is staying. There use to be a compressor or something that was outside the cooler and we cut the lines and took it out. It was sitting on a large metal rack bolted to the wall. A friend of ours does commercial refrigeration and said he could get it going again. The inside is probably 10ft by 7ft. If all the junk wasn't in there you could see something. Under all the stuff in the back along the wall is the freezer, three stainless lids that are two handled that you pull up and out. Did you see the meat hooks in the picture? We have a ball at Halloween with the kids!
