Westy Slant Front Dryer on ebay: A bargain at twice the price

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

It's no typo- the FIRST time (s)he wanted $10,000 with a BIN of $20,000. You don't make a typo like that twice. Interestingly, the first time they ran the auction, they called it a 1963 so I wrote them (through ebay messages) to apprise them that it was, in fact, a 1953 and, therefore, worth even more! ROFLOL!

I'd have a hard time finding this as I ususally look under the word "vintage" and not "antique". Doesn't ebay charge a fee based on how much your asking price is? I almost feel sorry for someone who is so 'out of it' - I mean, its kinda foolish.

They always misspell a word or two

Did ya see it has to be "Whiped" down abit? <br
I just looked at another wayout whacky auction where the receiver was used and the cabinet was "warn" down abit
So it was marked down to 269.00! WAY OVER THE TOP <br
If we all pool our money --the whole club mayber we can chip her down to $8,000 and save a vintage antique dryer -- THEY ARE SO RARE these days!! <br

While we here are perfectly free to disagree with auction opening bids, it generally is not a good idea to contact eBay sellers with snide remarks about their auctions. It is one thing to make helpful pointers such as correcting make/model or giving helpful background information, emailing a seller to poke fun at their opening bid is at worse poor taste and at best an invitation to a nasty exchange. Such emailing could also land one afoul of eBay's TOS <br <br
Those of us here have come to know and hopefully appreciate the rather tounge and cheek back and forth between members, however others might not take things the right way.

Here is a link to the first auction. I was wrong. Their original buy it now was $150,000 (not $20,000) as I stated earlier. They have come down to an eminently reasonable $20,000. You know what would really be a kick in the teeth? If they actually GOT it!

I think Frig might be right. either that or someone is several months behind on their sub-prime mortgage and needs money to save their "american dream" mcmansion in the suburbs.

Whilst I am on the subject, does anyone have a decent slant- front Laundromat around this vintage they would like to sell me to match my dryer (preferably closer to the 99 cents I paid for MY dryer, not the $150,000 they want) or even a matching pair in the midwest/northeast area?

uummmmm ??

what color is the sky in their world ????? Have a safe trip back to earth ............ It always scares me if people like this vote ..............

Oh my and I am only 124 miles away too! I don't think i will jump on this bid any time soon. Talking about drugs, wasn't this the type of Westinghouse in the 1967 or '68 movie "Wait Until Dark?" A doll full of drugs was put in the washer or dryer during the movie? Just wondering? Gary

As Greg said....

"It always scares me if people like this vote" <br
Couldn't agree with you more Greg..do America a favor and stay home in 2008!!. I have to watch this in eBay,because if this sells for that price, I will be downright shocked!!! Robert, don't you have this dryer? ....what do YOU think it is worth??

Wow!

It is a little frightening to think that some of these people vote. "It could be worth more than I am selling it for." Well, with that kind of logic, I guess anything is possible.Maybe we should all go and morgage the house and buy it..........Just testing you:)..i have things in my life, some for over twenty years, that when I bought them, they were throwing them out, now they are hot, hot, hot. Just because I am courious, how do you get a rust spot on a mint condition dryer and still ask a mint for it?
PS: Maybe he failed to mention all of the money that is in the dryer after many years of use, as well as the bars of gold that he will throw in as a premeum.Just a thought
Robert, Oh wise one, what is this thing really worth? Unrestored the way it is? I would say 200-300 would be my guess..........please enlighten us!!

OMG

It's really kind of funny that they think it's worth that much money...I wonder what other "get rich quick" schemes they've come up with! Is there any end to people’s delusions?

and for that price, they could have/ should have staged it.
I mean look at it. There is all kinds of marks all over the front. and that tacky tension belt wrapped around it. It's like they were getting ready to take it to the local transfer stage to put in the metal bin and someone who has drank to many beers said "Let take a picture and try and sell this! (ah-doyh)"
