What a sad ending :-(... For Filter Flos

Well I tested theses out in the alley today and gave my neighbors quite a show. Still could not figure out where the leaks were coming from? The GE leaked worse than the Hotpoint. I put an ad on craigslist to and could not get anyone honest to fix them so today I earned $44.00 for these great legends at the scrap yard. I was going to donate them to the Salvation Army but I did not want someone to haul it all the way home for a disappointment. So off they went with a piece of my heart. Thank you for your

I've noticed GE's of that vintage are starting to have outer tub rust outs.

too bad you didn't take the agitators out and keep them. you could've probably sold them on ebay or something???

There is a difference between collecting and hoarding. Some.

Don't feel too bad; it's a collector's prerogative to be choosy and although those were nice machines, they weren't exceptional. I do agree with Christina, however, if you have the time and energy, if you harvest as many of those parts as you can, it's amazing what you can earn if you're willing to deal with eBay.Some of the filter-flo hoses, power cords, hinges, knobs, timers, washbaskets and leveling legs are worth something to a lot of people out there, especially if you know what they are and what machines they work with. I've seen those agitators going for as much as 75 dollars. Of course, I'm usually the idiot who is buying them, but I hope I'm not the only idiot out there.

With machines that age...

..it was most likely the tub boot. Still available. You tossed some wonderful machines.

It may be worth the time and effort for those who have these GE Filter Flo's to POR-15 in inner tub before it rusts out the next time you have the wash basket out.

GE FF Washers With Rusted Outer Tubs

This has been killing GE FFs since the 1960s models and as the durability of GE FFs increased through the late 70s through the 80s and people were keeping washers longer we saw more and more GEs with rust problems. I also think that GEs porcelain coating got a little thinner over the years along WP, Maytag and a few other companies.

Allen's idea of cleaning and coating the inside of the outer tub' with Por-15 or I prefer two-part marine epoxy enamel is a good one if you have one of these machines that you want to use much and keep.

A real shame that GE's best products, next to their ranges (& some top mount fridges) could suffer this kind of planned-obsolescence!
