Hi everyone,

I don't know if I need a support group or if I need instructions. For the last year I have had the worst luck with washers and dryers. Im at the point I need to decide if I should sell off or if I should fix any of these machines. Here is the list and their problems:

Miele W1986-Drain pump is leaking where the pump meets the housing. You cannot buy the separate sections you have the buy the whole pump/motor assembly $400
Miele Dryer- Works fine

Maytag Neptune BWW5500- the drain pump bangs around when spinning soo loudly that the tenant below complained and I am missing the drain hose guide and I am missing the back panel that covers the flywheel. It is also rusting round the detergent dispenser
Maytag Neptune Dryer- works fine

Asko W660 Washer- Small leak around the door seal
Asko T760 Dryer- Power light comes on but digital display screen is blank and will not turn on as of 6/18/16

Fisher & Paykel Intuitive Washer- Leaks and will not drain
Fisher & Paykel Intuitive Top Load Dryer- Works fine

I have never overloaded any machine. I only use Persil washing detergent in the beaded form. I just dont know what is wrong with me. Is it something Im doing?????

Last year I bought a Miele w1986 to keep as a spare for when my Asko dies.  It needed a new door boot.  Miele wanted more than I wanted to pay and I found an aftermarket version from a supplier in England for much MUCH less money even with shipping.  I just had to shop around online to find places that would ship from UK to US. It was identical to the original one and fit perfectly and was really very easy to change..  Could it just be an O-ring or something causing it to leak?  I know when the pump went out on my Asko 10 years ago I was able to just replace the motorized part and a new gasket and re-used the old housing.  If it otherwise works fine it might be worth repairing.  As far as your Maytag and the F&P's, I don't know.  Maybe someone else will have more to say.

Miele washer pumps

At least the older series such as 1070, 1900, etc.. you need to replace the entire pump unit. Been there and done that.

If you are keen to do the work yourself yes, there are aftermarket parts available in Europe that are advertised to fit Miele washers. Miele techs obviously won't touch the stuff. They can only install NIB parts IIRC.

For spending

the amount of cash a Miele costs, it should not have any trouble for at least 5 years.
Parts across the boards from any maker seem to not be lasting like they used to.
They make them cheap, and not to last. Keeps the white goods market cogs turning out new products 24/7.
Condemned appliances get shredded, and made into new sheet metal. But it takes more energy and other raw material to operate shredders, furnaces, extrusion and rolling mills. Thus, I fail to see a smaller carbon foot print so to speak from modern "energy star" appliances.
The only upside is less rusted metal in scrap yards or land fills.
I guess you could call me a sort of a tree hugger, but the engineers have not impressed me, nor the bean counters when they cheapen an engineers good design and compromise reasonable economic longevity for the consumer.
The modest home energy savings is often offset by the higher up front purchase price.

F&P --

What model Intuitive?  There were three - IWL12, IWL15, IWL16.

Does the pump run?  If not, then there's the problem -- pump is either burned out, or the motor control board is bad (not sending power to the pump), or both.

A good pump reads 7 ohms resistance.

The pump could also be source of the leak.

Strongly advise do not continue trying to run the machine with a bad pump.  If the motor control board is still good, trying to run a bad pump often will zap it.

Ummm, ok ... you say the machine won't drain but also that you haven't yet run it with water so how do you know it won't drain?  Anyway, as I said, evidence of water dripping from the pump (such as rusting on it, mineral deposits, and/or obvious presence of water) is a very bad thing, the fix is to replace the pump.  Easy DIY procedure, several online sources for parts.  The diverter valve is also a potential leak source (but is rare compared to the pump) and it can be involved in drain obstructions.  Conjecturing and guessing what's wrong won't fix the problem, active investigation and diagnostic is needed.

The reason I said it won't drain is because the previous owner said it needed a new drain hose. I inspected the drain hose and it's in perfect condition. After I questioned him about it, that is when he told me that it wasn't draining and making strange noises which is why he suspected the drain hose. (Which I think is the pump and not the hose)

Yeah, the drain hose wouldn't be involved unless it has a clog in it, although as I mentioned the diverter valve can also catch a clog.

Check the pump by pressing Power to turn the machine on, then press Adjust a few times until the display says Ready to Spin. Press Start.  The pump should turn on immediately (even if there's no water in the tub).  The main drive motor will pulse after a few seconds in preparation to spin so don't confuse that with the pump running.

Or, you can run the pump via Diagnostic Mode (a bunch of detail about Diagnostic Mode is in the thread you linked above).
- With the machine plugged in but off, press and hold LifeCycle, then press Power at the same time. Should get two beeps and the panel turns on. If not two beeps, press Power to turn it off and try again.
- Press Fabric Care to run the pump (the Creasables light should also turn on).  Only the pump will run so if you don't hear anything then, as I said previously, either the pump is seized or burned-out or the motor controller board isn't sending power to the pump (or maybe there's a problem on the pump wires).
- Press Power to exit diagnostics.

IWL16 is a Phase 7 machine.  IWL12 & IWL15 are Phase 6.  There are some component differences but overall mechanical design and function is the same.

Its pumping

So here is an update on the F&P!!! Got it home hooked it up and it started dripping water into the tub like the hot valve was stuck slightly open. Took the pump off took it apart using a video from YouTube cleaned out a large bit of lint under the impeller and wiped down the dust and dried up water stains. Ran it through a cycle with no issues. Also since the completion of the first cycle water is no longer trickling in like the valve is stuck. There were no leaks under the washer though I may still replace the pump just to make sure.
