What appliances does GE make in the U.S./ N.A.- Jan 2016..

With the Haier buyout,got me wondering about the national origin of currently avalible GE apliances? With past recent GE appliances have noticed:
-A/Cs :china
-24"laundry :china and korea
-dishwasher :china-(this was a 2011 built in)
-some refrigerators :mexico,from NA and Korean parts

1998 not exactly 'recent' but at that time GE was selling rebadged Electrolux FLs. I have one, badged Frigidaire with White CI leasing the name. One's head is to spin.

Well, GE has moved quite a bit back to it's KY Appliance park in the recent years.
They tried to sell it. It wouldn't sell. So they INVESTED [1B dollars] in Appliance Park, and started coming out with a glut of newer products, mostly made right there, hired workers, streamlined manufacturing, and they're making over a billion in profit from that investment. So....they sell it. LOL. Ugh.

They make all their dishwashers in KY, except for the ADA compliant machines which are Chinese.
All their top load laundry is made in KY.
However their standard height front load washers are made in China.
Their dryers are made in Canada and Mexico.
Their Right Height FL washers ARE made in KY.
The vast majority of their refrigerators are made in the US.
Like everyone else....their microwaves come from China and Korea.
The higher end GE and Profile ovens/ranges come from the US.
The middle line and lower line ovens/ranges come from Mabe in Mexico.
Hybrid water heaters are all made in KY.
Zoneline air conditioning is moving back to KY in 2016.

It's really a toss-up whether Haier will make Louisville it's N.A. hub and keep operations there, or over time, move everything out of the US.
Honestly? From a purely capitalist perspective, I don't know why they'd keep anything here. Except maybe for refrigerators, since those are expensive as hell to put on the slow-boat from China.

That's why I was really in favor of the Electrolux deal, making GE their mid-level brand. Their operations are already here with design and manufacturing, chiefly in GA. It would've been kept in US and EU hands. I'm sure everything would not have been kept in Appliance Park, but it at least would've been kept in North America. So they'd have to shuffle around some ovens and ranges to appease the regulators.
I think it would've been worth it.
But....again, to the money. GE got a sweet deal for way more than Appliance Park is worth.

I guess our titans of industry have made the decision that these types of white goods are not worth the hassle, US labor costs or infrastructure, and we should just give it away to the Asians. Just. Like. Tvs and computers.

At least we still got Whirlpool....and a lesser extent, Frigidaire.

My GE range I   bought three years ago was US made.  I believe it was made in Alabama though, not Kentuck.

Yes I believe GE's US made ranges are not made in KY but by another division elsewhere, ironically called Roper. But is not tied with WP.

I Will Say...

that GE makes a near bullet-proof range.
Mine is damn near perfect. I'd buy it again without question.
Hope it remains that way for a long time to come...

I saw on the news a short blip this weekend that GE is moving out of CT and relocating to Boston. They are either taking over an existing building or building their own in the Seaport area.

My Range was not made in Mexico

I thought it was Alabama, but I pulled the paperwork, and it's Georgia.

That Cafe cooktop is much faster than my old one. The Kenmore burners ran at 22Khz- this new GE the burners run at 60Khz.

Where GE Major Appliances Are Made

Most Electric ranges are made in the US, most gas ranges are assembled in Mexico.

 

GE like WP has been moving more appliance manufacturing BACK to the US during the last decade. If these two corporate giants think it is better to manufacture and assemble appliances here it must be, and I guarantee you that Haier will keep making appliances in the US.

 

The problem with Electrlox buying GE was Electrlox all ready has plenty of manufacturing capacity here in North America, so many more factories would close. Whirlpool closed about 10 out of the 13 factories they got when they bought Maytag, they did not need them.

 

I said when WP was buying that it would have been better if Haier had bought it, now there is absolutely nothing left of MT except for some Magic Chef derived ranges which are nothing to get excited about.

 

If Haier had bought MT you would still have many MT appliances still in production today.
