I was just browsing British Ebay and came across these, surely they wont work on UK power will they ? They look oldish so I dont know if this is in the right forum... (sorry if it isnt)

Were these good machines in their time ??

That is similar to the set I have. I seem to remember that Sears sold machines for other power systems, but I'm not sure.

Yes - even White Knight - a UK dryer maker - have one; however it isn't very popular as the electric dryers seem to be just as efficient and quick nowadays, especially now we are seeing spin speeds in washers ever increasing. 1400rpm spins are quite commonplace on the market now; whereas 5 years ago only the TOL models had 1400rpm spins or over.

Yes agiflow, they last. This pair looks like more of the toast color than almond. If the color is toast, then it's rare.

They may have been owned by ex-patriots who brought them from the US when transfered abroad. When we lived in England in the 70's, a few of the Americans we knew had done just that. You just need a converter to change voltage.

There are any number of servicemen/companies that will convert American 120v/60hz appliances like washers and dryers to work on GB or EU currents. There are also American export dealers who sell domestic washers,dryers, etc to be shipped abroad already converted. In both instances many of these are appliances being taken by Amercians either transferred or moving abroad (military, businessmen and their familes, diplomatic core, etc).

There is also a large market in Israel, and parts of the UK for large American top loaders and dryers. Many of these are for households with large families/large amounts of laundry where small front loaders simply won't do.

If its direct drive does it have the faster agi stroke or the older longer style??

Yes very quick stroke and the cork-screw agitator. Very effective if loaded and timed correctly. The more BOL models had no cork screw agitator, but did about the same job.

... my Aunty Mary has one!

And she thinks it is great!!!! despite the fact it has to be plumbed in permanenlty and it is pretty poor in construction. She thinks it is cheaper to run than an electric so a bargain!
