VEGAS

Our annual Las Vegas trip is only 2 weeks away. This trip means a lot to us-it is the only chance my wife and I have to get away together.Eight of us are going-folks we are very fond of.Five whole days out from under the pressure of generating income(for me)and running a large household(for both of us).Lotta booze, lotta gamblin',shows, lotta sleepin'lotta mattress gymnastics(hopefully)!I drive out and everyone else comes by air.

In June we are going to Chicago to visit my strange sister to check up on how she is doing with her appliances. We are preparing to be horrified again!
In August we are looking at a trip to the San Juan Islands outside of Seattle for a bike trip. We really love the Pacific Northwest. But it depends on space availability, which this summer looks quite full.

I am going

to learn to ride a bicycle again. I cant afford to fill up the tank.. Even a meal @ mickeyd's now cost about 7.00 and that is nothing extra. The taxes on the house have gone up almost 20% in 3 years. here it is actually cheaper to rent a apt. you can get a VERY nice 2 bedroom one for around 600.00 Far less than house and insurance payments.

No travel plans for summer, went on a cruise back in January. Mostly I'll be working on projects:

The '58 Buick needs a repaint (yeah, like thats gonna happen this year).

Yesterday I went to Houston and got the '53 Chevy truck back from my dad - I gave it to him several years ago but for the last two years he hasn't really had time to drive it, so he gave it back. The truck has a 235 straight six motor and dad had an A/C installed. My MPG with the A/C on was about 11.8 at a speed of about 63mph - which really had the engine revved up (original drive train, 411 rear end). I find that I'm not driving the classic cars to shows as much with the high gas prices. And, I haven't seen too many of the Hummers that I normally see on my drive to work.

I'm just finishing my 10 X 16 storage shed - to get the car junk out of the garage so I can park cars in there. It has an upper loft, so it is about 11 feet from floor to the top. I built the upper floor at 6 foot so I won't bump my head, but my friends might have to duck. Getting the truck is a big incentive for me to hurry up.

Today I hooked up the power: I had to run the main wire from the shed to the house, then connect it to the breaker box. Everything in the shed worked - no redo's needed. There are four lights, 14 outlets, and separate outlets for the A/C and the dehumidifier. Now all I have left is making the door and shelves, and moving the car parts into it of course.

I would like to start the deck and outdoor kitchen this summer, we'll see what happens. Surprisingly, some of the lumber I need has come down in price since last year. I have never seen lumber prices come down after going up before.

dunno wut i'm doing this summer, but if my dad goes to VA this summer, i'll go with him. if not, i'll try the jersey shore. i careless about the 2, but i'm too broke to travel on plane and i'll go crazy if i spend my vacation at home eventhough i have cool toys to play with, so gotta get out and go somewheres.

Well, things have really taken a turn with regard to summer plans. We are suddenly on a fast track to sell our place, buy out my sister and take over my mom's house, an 80+ year old Tudor-Norman style with more character than our current stamped-out midcentury tract home could ever dream of having, and in one of this town's most desirable neighborhoods that happens to also be the "gay ZIP code."

We have the daunting task now of clearing out our place as well as Mom's. It's going to be a lot of work but we stand to come out of this with no mortgage payment, money in the bank, tons of equity and a house that's worth way more than the one we currently own even though it needs major updating.

Any trips for us will be local, unless once we get into Mom's place we need to relax and unwind. We'll be able to afford a nice trip if we want to at that point.

Stand by for one last offer re: Mom's plain Jane '49 Westy stove.

Well I finally have some plans

After Wednesday's graveside service for my Dad, (see link) I can look at going to River's Edge Campground in Georgia for a few days in June. When I moved from the Low Country of SC my choir gave me a $125 gas card and being only 2 hours away that will help. I would love to see some friends out in Washinton State but don't think I can find a cheap flight. With 6 weeks vacation I will be working on my Dad's place getting it ready to move into sometime this year. Other than that I plan to spend a lot of time at one of my favorite churches - Our Lady of Beauty Rest. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

OK drmitch

Are you going to plaster that room? I can see where the lathe was that held the plaster. I got started on the guest room plaster repairs this weekend. About 40% done. Everybody told me to rip out the old paster and drywall. No way. I am repairing what is there. I know it will not look like a perfect modern wall but I am pleased so far with the progress. I am finding the original plaster had horse-hair in it throughout the house.

I also painted the walls in my bathroom and have the trim yet to do. I am mahogany grain painting some of the trim in the bath and most of the trim in the guest room.

Keep us abreast of your summer progress (or email me if you think it bores the room as I will do the same) on your house.

I am still looking for some vintage appliances to fit into the house and am open to suggestions always.

Added comment to bread recipe

This weekend I bought 25lbs of Hudson Cream flour. I used to pay $4.79 for this bag, it has now gone up to $11.49 in the last three months.

Sorry, not trying to hijack, just adding on to a previous post.
