What can you tell me about this 90s whirlpool washer?

Hi everyone, it’s been a long long time.

Today I picked this set up from a refurbished appliance store. Unfortunately I got them home and the washer spins, but does not agitate, the coupler is bad so that is on order. I haven’t hooked either one of them up yet, I plugged the washer in at home quickly to just make sure it spins and agitated and when I dialed the timer to the agitation cycle the motor just hummed. But when I put it on spin it span just fine, also whoever had this washer bolted the agitator dogs to the actual top piece of the agitator , the dogs were black and rubbed smooth.. safe to say they clearly weren’t too bright whatsoever

I know these direct drives are very very reliable good machines, but can anyone tell me what year the washer and dryer is or a good estimate?? Model number is CD1120902. Dryer model number is LG8861XWQO

My family has had in total 2 of these direct drive whirlpools, one was a 90s roper and the next one was a early 2000s Whirlpool, amazing washers and never any issues. Loved them. But my grandma decided to buy a cabrio set, fuck that.

CD1120902 would be the washer's serial number, not model.  Manufactured 11th week (March 14-18) of 1994.

Dryer model LG8861XWQ0 (zero at the end, not letter O) is 1990 model-year (which doesn't necessarily confirm the manufacture date).

I don't believe that the washer would agitate if the water level switch were not satisfied. The humming you heard was probably the water valves.

It does not have a broken drive coupler otherwise it would not spin, It will not agitate till it is full of water as Tom said above.

There may be a dry-agitate position somewhere on the timer.  Check at the last 2-mins of the wash period on the Normal/Regular cycle.  Could also be in the middle of one of the Off periods.  Posting a pic of the timer may help us identify where is the position.  The lid switch may need to be depressed for the dry-agitate position to work.

My 1986 Lady Kenmore direct drive washer had a agitation period after the delicate cycle before the beginning of the soak cycle. It wasn't until I was a member of the club did I understand that this was the portion on the timer dial that was the designated section for the suds return portion on models with that official. (Was similar with our 1964 Norge15 between the end of the spin cycle and the beginning of the soak cycle)

My suggestion is try this: With the lid closed and the timer knob pulled out, gradually move the timer dial an increment at a time in those dead zones between the end of one cycle and the beginning of the new cycle to find the area that would begin agitation (that's actually where suds return is).

Yup I figured that out last night that it was the valves humming, I got it to agitate just fine. New to these machines as have never owned a direct drive myself. Thank god nothing was actually wrong with it I couldn’t believe I didn’t notice that the humming was coming from the valves and not the motor I found that out last night when I was messing with it again before installation.

And yes, I found the sweet spot on the timer that will allow it to agitate then drain then spin. It’s on the heavy cycle before rinse. But that was the only cycle I could get it to agitate with already being said not installed so no water, all is good though. Motor and pump are very clean and so is the cabinet itself, very well taken care of and have the dogs on order for the agitator. Will be a great cleaning washer thanks for all you’re guys tips and information.
