When I was at WIBA, we had an RCA BTA-5H, which was a gorgeous and impressive monster. It got replaced with a Harris solid-state box which was both reliable and utterly uninteresting. We also had a nice looking Collins back-up transmitter which was about 1kW <br
The digital camera era has definitely led to some lean years in camera repair, but things are starting to settle down -- the parts and information are increasingly available, and customers are starting to hang on to their 'old' cameras instead of replacing them whenever they break. And some people are digging out their film cameras because they take better pictures <br

I have a cousin who is a semi pro photographer, and she is selling off her TOL Nikon digital camera and going back to film. She said that she can't get the depth in digital that you can in film. Digital photos look kind of flat compared to film. <br
I imagine with the switch to digital television the market for television transmitters is booming with everyone trying to get up and running on digital when the change comes next year. <br

Congratulations on your new job! You'll love it. Seeing exciting destinations, meeting interesting people. Also you'll be sleeping in many beds other than your own, working ungodly hours and be able to say "Would you like something to drink" in your sleep!
 
@ whirlcool: Yes, I know that all. When I returned from my last holiday (Tunesia), a passenger complained about the menu on board and he didn't stop to complain. The stewardess seemed to be very angry but smiled all the time. I just thought "welcome to your new job" *lol*

In the late 70's stewards/stewardess' began calling themselves flight attendants, or F/A's for short. I think if you called any of them a stewardess, they wouldn't like it these days.
Just keep a smiling. It's much harder to be nasty to a F/A when they have a pleasant smile on their face. And remember some people just can't be pleased at all.
I often hear "I'm not flying your airline ever again!" from people. Usually they are the upper echelon frequent flyers. I tell them that if that is true, which charity would you like us to donate your miles to since you won't be needing them anymore. That always shuts them up!

Cant really post nice pictures of my office, its a typical 80s supermarket office with thermoplastic floor tiles, vile minty greeny bluey walls and grey filing cabinets hiding a Wetrok floor polisher. Shelves of files, paperwork and stuff. Im a Stock Control Officer (over Frozen Foods and Beers Wines and Spirits -my qualifications in Drink service and knowlege comes in handy for me to be a wine advisor too) for Tesco Crewe. Spend most of my time on the shop floor with a PDA tapping in figures and counting stock. Measuring up shelf space and generating stock to fill various fixtures. I have ultimate power too, to enter the Sales Based Ordering system and delete or adjust stocking dates for any product. Also in my power to delete any product I see fit to delete. Now do I make Tesco Crewe a non P&G product stocking store? LOL! Rob
 
My Job...

So I moved to North Carolina... with no job <br
I was lucky enough to get a fantastic job through a friend of mine down here (they tried to recruit my friend, but he declined)... I'm the Operations Manager at ULTA, a store that sells lots and lots of things (over 18,000 SKUs)! We mainly sell fragrance, prestige cosmetics (higher end), Personal Care Appliances (Hairdryers, Flat irons, curling irons, etc...), Professional Haircare (shampoo, hairspray, gels, pomades, etc...), Mass Cosmetics (the L'Oreal, Max Factor--things you can get at Target or Walgreen's), and Mass shampoo, soap, and other body care accoutrement. We also have a salon in the store. <br
So, I trained at one store in Raleigh... but got hired to work at a brand new store that's less than 5 minutes from where I live. I was part of the nifty process of completely setting the store. That was an amazingly detail-oriented undertaking--that we accomplished in a week and a half.
We've now been open for 3 weeks... and business is just starting to pick up <br

Note that the building is actually standing on the bottom of a former lake. It isn't obvious from this picture (taken from second floor (street level is zero) but the water in the background is higher than our street level.
