what do you guys do when you forget to add fabric softner to your laundry??? rerinse and add it?? forget about it?? do the unthinkable......DRYER SHEETS??????

just wondering.....i guess it would depend to me on what you are washing and of COURSE how much time you had. i did this tonight that is why i'm asking.

I start an extra rinse. A box of dryer sheets have been in my house for over 15 years. Need I say more, they're not used!! But then again, I've never had a washer without fabric softner dispenseer since December, 1964.

oh i have the dispenser.....sometimes i forget to put it in there. i'm such a dummy sometimes

Idon't use fabric softener on many loads, so if I forget to add it, I don't worry about it. If it's something that I really want softened (like a flannel shirt or something) I'll set the Neptune to do a rinse/spin.

I don't use dryer sheets. Don't like the fragrance or the feel of them.

forgotten conditioner

I usually do not use conditioner, except sometimes on some acrylic jumpers that build up static cling otherwise...
So, if I were you: I'd just forget about it!

Since I'm usually down in the basement while the wash is

I always use softener except for towels and utility items. It depends what load I've washed, usually I just don't worry about it unless it a load of Jeans in that case I will give it a second rinse with softener.

Given

my distaste for the stuff, I wouldn't need to forget it, 'cause I don't use it.
But, ok, you asked, so this is what I'd do: I'd just throw a dryer sheet in that once and let it go at that.
I don't think one dryer sheet would burn your house down.

My 2 cents...

My washer will automatically add the softener for me. But I don't do it that way. I add the softener myself. That being the case, I often forget. Then, I cant remember if I forgot last time, or not, so I do another rinse with the fabric softener. I hate forgetting to do this with towels. When I do towels I always use my old Downy ball. It's habit with towels. I forget with every other type load. =)

I bought a few bottles of the various Downy scents last year. Then over the ensuing months it seemed like my head was always congested especially at night when I went to bed forcing me to rely on nasal sprays and/or decongestant tabs. I figured it was allergies to something here since we moved, grass pollen, who knows, anyways I stopped using it all together about 2 months ago and a big improvement. I won't swear yet that it was the Downy or just the winter freeze setting in but I'm going to continue not using it for now and perhaps do a load of sheets again in a few months with Downy just to see if the clogged nose comes back.

Pete - I'm glad you brought up your point. I just washed my sheets and rinsed with some recently purchased plain-jane Downy. 2 days later I'm noticing that I'm getting pretty stuffed up - prior to I was just fine. Interesting.....

Normally I don't use softener unless it is a special occasion - lol.

I think it's worth re-rinsing with the softener added - I find the second rinse with towels makes them fluffier and softer, but that could just be my imagination.

You need a Maytag with the turquoise Power Fin!

A fabric softener dispenser in the top of the agitator is all you need. Put it in and forget about it because it's dispensed automatically.
Just do yourself a favor and avoid the super-concentrated rhinoceros-snot versions of Downey and you'll always have soft laundry, automatically!

I use Kirkland liquid fabric softener,

Anything turquoise just has to be good!

So, when did fabric softener dispensers start appearing anyway? The first one I remember seeing was a neighbor's GE V14 washer (I guess it was an early 60's model) with one.

Haha..

Haha..
I rememeber the neighbour´s daughter sitting in front of her fresh laundered washing..a bit depressed!
She used fabric softner...but no detergent!
LOL!

Personally, I don't care for the stuff

Not a real fan of fabric softener, any form. And I do get called on the carpet for not using it. I think it's just one more factor in our daily routine and environment that contributes to the proliferation of allergies and an overall weakening of the immune system. Remember, skin is an absorption vehicle into the body. Something in my gut tells me it's just not right.

Soft water and a good fragrance free, natural detergent seems to get my clothes clean enough. Line drying outside (like how I grew up) seems to do more for the freshness of clothes than all the chemicals we can coat them with. Now mind you, I don't hang my clothes on the line, no appliance opportunity or drama there, but line dried clothes really smell fresh and feel pretty good.

There, that's my soapbox (no pun intended) for today!

(ps. Many Thanks Robert for resetting my password. I was starting to go into withdrawal!!)
