"What ever happened to the '59 Kelvinator?" UPDATE!

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Wow, way to go Ben. It appears to work perfectly according to the video. Great weld job, that machine is way too pretty not to be working!

Good God Almighty

I can't get over these photos. Jesus H!

The water shot and the light arcing in "Coasting from Spin"--you gotta be kidding me, absolutely celestial!

"The Shampooing action," I think, Ben, that shot may be THEE single coolest photo I've ever seen.

Even the colors in the tub, the black agi, the orange/red cap and the unusual tub coloration and speckling--they're amazing

And i love the humor and the art of setting up all your little gizmos on the double rinsing WO-65.

When you get a chance, I need the title of the video in order to view it. Thanks.

Now I'm going to take my laptop to bed, and study beauty as I fall asleep. Amazing. The Senator from Iowa hits another grand slam.

Ben - Amazing, A beautiful job

for a beautiful machine. I love the stylish logo on the right
front of the cabinet. What is the button on the top to right
rear of the lid? Overload reset?

WOW!

Ben, that is an awesome machine! Congratulations on the 'creative re-engineering' for the clutch drive - if that wash video is any indication, this washer is going to serve you well for many many more years!!
I love the control panel - it really captures that "atomic" look nicely!
Congratulations - you have done a splendid job and thank you for sharing the videos! I just learned a lot more about Kelvy washers from watching (and they say TV isn't instructional... HA!)
Enjoy this beauty!!!

Fantastic Ben

You know, my Dad's Friends wife had the exact machine in her kitchen and I always wanted to see it wash and would practically beg her to see the machine run, but I never did. What a great concept in agitation. Very Splashy and Dramatic.

Thanks guys - glad to see that someone (Eddie) has seen this machine before from their childhood. Very cool.

Mike - the title to the video is: AMC Kelvinator - Washing again!

I'm not sure what YouTube is up to these days. I created the video in wide screen format, HQ. But from the upload results they put it up as standard 4:3, and it is on HQ full time? I dunno anymore.

yea so glad she is runnin again. sorry bout the clutch thought it would work.. if you ever find a 2 speed motor that will work let me know i could use one too.. and thanks to you i was able to replace the agitator and get the wires back in place.. yee ha good to hear there are a few up and runnin

Ben i am a "59" too. Great work on the clutch, hats off to you. I do not remember anyone having anything that cool on my childhood street. Thanks for the great vid. alr2903

Awesome.

This is where I get to learn the most stuff from you maniacs. These Kelvy's are so freakin' cool--but, honest to G, I've barely seen one of them in my entire life in the NY tri-state area. Were they only sold in some states? I'd love to see one in action, or own one someday.

Thanks guys for the messages. While they are very simple, mechanically, they are anything but simple while washing!

Yes - the motor is a Delco motor. The spare single speed motor and clutch that I received from Chris was of the Westinghouse variety. I suppose AMC was sourcing from whomever came back with the lowest bid.

Trip to Cape Cod? I've never been to that part of Mass before... ;-)

Ben the washer look's FANTASTIC!
I was wondering how do you advance the control panel, or start at a point where you want to wash ?
Nice restoration job ! That video what fun that is what an the hell record did you find the song from lol,Love it... I tell you there is NO need for a second rinse with that baby!
Concentric Action , Slimline wash bar control panel , Lighted control panel, AND see thru Window.......The machine rocks. AWSOME thanks. ( off topic )
I got a Neptune for my neighbor and I will show you later hey that rhyme.
If I can't get all the machines I want or don't have enough space I try to get other people to get them that way I can use them who are close to me lol.
I think the NEPTUNES are fun machines even if you can't see them wash until you bypass the switch, but sometimes when you imagine the clothes washing in the basket it is pretty mysterious... that model with the sound's are pretty soothing for me...Well have a good time with your Daily driver I'm sure in the future , there will be another one in it's place right ?
Take care.

Leon - glad to have helped. Just as long as the drum isn't cracked and you get can the set screw out, you should be good to go. I'm brainstorming on ways to add more pad material to the shoes. Back in the day you could re-line break drums....
