I was doing some dumpster diving this a.m. and stumbled across a chrome Kenmore Grill-Waffle Baker.` Aside from speckles of surface rust on the top, the thing looks hardly used. On the bottom it says:

Kenmore
Grill-Waffle Baker
Model 632.64640
110-120v AC only 1100 Watts
Sears Roebuck and Company
Simpsons-Sears Limited

It didn't have a cord, so I used the one from my c-50. It heated right up.

Can anyone date this for me? I will try to post pics later.

This is becoming way too much of an obsession; but I'm having sooooo much fun!

Oh wow,
I though I was bad.......
But I guess I fit right in since I do it for a living and brought home a chair, bakers kitchen rack that I have in my bathroom, a couple of bathroom floor matts and a few stuff toys that are in the back window of my car. You just never know what's out there until you walk and dive into it.....

Another mans/womans garbage is nothing but our treasures.

Hidden or trashed treasures....

Well,

If you have a local college, university, etc, that has dormatories - - make the effort to find out when the end of the school year occurs ( varies ) and especially WHEN the students have to be OUT of the dorms. The Dumpster diving rewards are awesome! Not uncommonly - still in the box christmas presents ( fryers, toasters, blenders, even vacume cleaners ) show up in the dumpster because Junior or Missy dosen't have room in their vehicle to take them home for the summer... Used items are equally as available, though occasionally require a little cleaning up - I have found all sorts of things - all in nearly new condition - including ( go figure ) a Kirby which had never been unpacked from it's original packaging. !!! You just never know what you will find - it's worth the time and effort - if you're really picky, just wear clothes that you can throw away after your treasure hunting...

Good Hunting,

OMG I never thought of that!!!!!

Larry:

You have opened up a whole new world for me! I thought I got great deals from the Goodwill and Salvation Army stores in Austin (home of University of Texas). I always figured these kids gave away most of their stuff to charity. However, to them it is far easier just to "dump" it in the dumpster.

Summer is just around the corner. If you see any feet sticking out of a dumpster in Austin or College Station (Texas A&M), it's just me. ;-)

My dad used to dumpster-dive at a construction outfit where he worked for a while after his so-called retirement. The owner lived next door to the business, and well, let's just say conspicuous consumption was the order of the day. He found lots of useful stuff. Now he goes through the neighbors' trash. He found a perfectly lovely tackle box a couple weeks ago, brought to me for use as a toolbox.

Everybody needs a toolbox......

Hey Glenn, I saw that tackle/toolbox when you were working on the Frigidaire! LOL

dorm dumpster diving

Wow!! students have it WELL today!!In the dorm I went to during school-(1972-73) only appliances you could bring was a radio-or stereo,a shaver,or a popcorn popper.(it was amazing WHAT you could cook in the popcorn popper--Many Pheasents were cooked in them-was very tasty-) was in pheasent hunting country.Thats something!! A Kirby??-guess the salesmen are visiting the dorms targeting those RICH students!!also-- even if you did have appiances when you went to school-thought they were TOO Valueable to throw out on a typical college student income.

Yes-that was in another housing part of the college I went to and the one my brother went to-students had TT machines disgused as "desks" as well.Thesee were the "cottages" and trailers rented to students who were married. Both schools wanted you to use the provided coin-op laundry equipment.

When I first started my commercial cleaning biz, we did cleaning for apartment complexes and vacated apartments. Horrible nasty work but sometimes there were treasures left behind. We found several Kirby Legend II's, NIB small appliances, a few bongs, lots of books and even a whole box of porn once.

Treasures abound everywhere - you just have to look!

LOL

Retromom,
you got me tickle and giggling over here!!!

I did forget to add to the list that someone threw out a Kenmore steam cleaner with all the attachments and did you know that it works???

You know, if I keep up? I could put Sanford and Son out of business!!!

LOL

Boundless Booty!

Larry:

Did I tell you that the waffle iron inserts can be flipped over to make a grill? Now I can finally make a Panini sandwich without hauling out the old frying pan.

I was just telling someone yesterday that our house is beginning to look like the Sanford and Son set. You found a Kenmore steamer with attachments? Oh....."this is the big one, They're calling for me...."

Y'all have fun treasure seeking. Let me know what you find!
