What in the Maytag is going on here for $375?

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Oh, well,

aren't those out near Imperia/ Slab City, or Indio? Maybe the sun badly faded them and the seller painted them.
Those are Norgetags, or the "Performa" line.

While I never saw Maytags in this blue color, I did see very similar machines that were under the Admiral name several years ago (maybe 10 - 12). Seems like they were at Home Depot. I don't think this color was made for much more than a year or so.

While I think they look a lot like Whirlpool products, I'm pretty certain they are Norge based. For one thing, the dryer doesn't have the lint filter on the top. Also, the top looks thicker like Norge, and the top of the door is slightly higher than on a Whirlpool.

I seem to remember these being sold at Home Depot, within the past 10 years.  Weren't available for that long a time.  Even when they were new, while I liked the idea of 'something different' after all of the white-on-white-on-white, I thought this color was unattractive.

No Whirlpool

These were Maytag's last offering of color (other than almond) before the takeover by Whirlpool.  I forget what they called it but it was like a metallic blue finish that sparkled in the light.   This was indeed a Norge-tag Performa badged Maytag machine from the plant in Arkansas.  Plastic basket - not a speck of porcelain inside or out.  Pic is of a Performa money-shot.  While they were cheap and felt like it, they sold at an attractive price-point.  Most didn't make live to the ripe old age of 5 or 6 years before needing to be scrapped.   The Performa dryers were under-powered (4600 watts IIRC) and also rather sad but did usually outlast the washers.

Still, it's a pretty color...
