I have been searching the internet high and low for a suitable price for my father-in-laws ABC spinner washing machine. The model number is 77 and it was made by Altorfer Brothers co. He is looking to sell it, but he just doesn't know what to sell it for. Any help would be very appreciated.

Perhaps I can help....

I have two ABC Washer Spinner machines from the 1930's, but I cannot seem to find the model number. As you may have already discovered, these machines were made here in Peoria, Illinois.

One is in pretty bad shape - especially the spinner tub because it has rusted completely through and the spinner is no longer riveted to the drive plate underneath the spinner tank. (I paid $40.)

The other, shown here, and on two subsequent replies, is in much better shape. (I paid $100.)

So hopefully based on this comparison you can come up with your price.

Mike, thanks for sharing pics of your unique machine

That is a fabulous agitator! The Meadows washer, also made in Newton, Iowa, used that same shape, but made of Bakelite. It was very gentle agitator which provided powerful water currents without high fins to smack the clothes around.

Yes thank you very much for sharing your pics. I really appreciate it. My father-in-laws tub is almost in mint condition. It is also turquoise. The only thing on it that is in bad condition is the wire that plugs into the wall. I will be posting some pics of it this evening if you want to come back and take a quick look. Thanks to everyone for their helpful messages.

Mike,

Through an ABC search yesterday looking for pix of the spinner, I came across a fabulous thread from the last days of January about yours and Gary's newspaper articles. I couldn't believe how nice it was to see that, and I truly can't imagine how I missed it and failed to acknowledge such wonderful gentlemen. Was it a week-end? My apologies. It gave me great joy reading it and finally seeing Gary ABC-O-matic after all these years. Amazing!

And yes that agitator is spectacular, so much heavy metal, reminds me of a thick door latch on a submarine. I'll re-read to see if you've got it working. Would be a treat to see all those heavy metal vanes swing.
