what is the best dishwasher detergent for kitchenaid dishwashers?

hello to all aw members i remember that dishwasher detergents box use to put on there package what brand it was recommended my mom and i have a kitchenaid dishwasher will be install tommorow currently using finish quantum ultra this is the dishwasher my mom and i now own that will be install tommorow

Best is dependent on a few things, your water being the most important. Best advice try a few different brands and see what works for you. For me it's Cascade platinum packs, but others hate these. so it's trial and error.

I have the same dishwasher I use Cascade Platinum and Cascade rinse aid.

I don't have a KA now...

but my KDS-20 (Hobart) was happy with Dollar Tree "Ultra Shine" granular. I am currently using it in my TOL Miele as well as using the liquid version in the professional Miele.

 

I found when I was a service tech that pods were generally way too much soap as today's d/ws use so little water. Had many a service call where they were the issue, not the d/w.

I still belive the water has the most impact on detergent use/performance. My 2 year old KA produces stunning results with Cascade Platinum pods - low water use and all. I do use Finish gel or Cascade complete powder for running stuff like fridge shelves ans bins throug the DW. My water comes on a 40 mile trip from Lake Huron, a cousin uses a well with a softener and uses just a bit of detergent.

I'm getting good results with Finish Quantum Ultra tabs in my Bosch 43CU. For full/dirty loads, I'll use two: one in the silverware bin and the other in the detergent dispenser. For light loads just one tab in the dispenser will do.

I tried some Kirkland pods and some Cacade pods, results no so good - lots of precipitate in the tub.

For my vintage Hobart and KA stand-alone DW's, I'll use some vintage phosphated Cascade or equivalent. Might have to switch to the Finish tabs eventually. I also have a stash of pure STPP just in case.

The water here is fairly soft - comes from the Sierra Nevada snows, either Hetch Hetchy or Mokolumne Rivers.

We have used the Kirkland tabs before and they worked well for us.. I'd buy them again but the store is 60 mi away and I just noticed our membership expired in August. I think we're back on some Cascades right now Personally I wouldn't renew it because I won't go there anymore , too crowded, but the other half enjoys it.
Will never buy bargain dw tabs.... they're just not worth it.

DW Detergent Tabs

I have and do use the Aldi premium tabs with very good results in my older WP PC DWs, [ 1987 ] The Cascade Platinum + OXI do slightly better but foam a lot in the main wash during the extended time while the DW is heating the water to 150F while circulating.

 

My incoming water temp is 130F and about 7 gains hardness.

I tried, just out of general interest, another small packet of P&G's 'Fairy All-in-One', 16 pods. Just to see whether the P&G formulation has improved.

It hasn't.

A full load of dirty dishes, crockery, cutlery, and pots and pans. The machine still foams up... the spray arms and pump struggle with the foam. The machine sounds decidedly lethargic. The machine seems to keep topping up with water.

A week later, virtually the same load of items, similarly soiled, with two of Lidl's basic tablets. The spray pressure sounds intense, with quick sweeps... even the upper basket which usually has a gentler, slower rotation.

lately I've been using

Cascade complete gel citrus breeze with cascade platinum power dry rinse aid. It does a good job on my family's dishes.

the rinse aid does foam

a little, but I don't notice a diminishment in performance. You may hear the pump cavitate a bit when switched to the upper rack on the last few minutes on the final rinse.

I switched from liquid to powder as it works better for me (Cascade or whatever is cheap and available) - but then again my KitchenAid is almost older than me....
