What is this machine?

Never mind

When I got the volume to work after a reboot, I see it is an AMC machine.

Question I have is who made AMC? I know it was not American Motors!

AMC was a Franklin-made machine.  Robert has a good example of this washer design though a little later model.

You've probably seen this commercial with your favorite brand, but it came up after the one you posted and I couldn't help but watch it again.

I'm a little behind the curve

Who or what was Franklin? I have seen that name on here before in reference to various transmissions used.

Indexing tubs

Franklin INVENTED the indexing washer tub in an automatic washer. and only Franklin and Westinghouse washers ever had it. The idea of an indexing tub was really just a byproduct of being too cheap to build a washer with a tub brake, despite of claims by the manufacturer and indexing tub did NOTHING to improve the washing action and in fact had the opposite effect.

IMO it not only did nothing, but "ruined" what would have been a very good washing action, especially on westinghouse machines with the swirly agitator.similar activator (forgot the name of it).
In the franklin, Wizard, western auto whatever machines the counterproductive indexing effect was slightly mitigated by the upper round vanes of their agitator styles.
Really a pity.[this post was last edited: 8/22/2014-11:02]
