A friend is looking to buy a new (non-HE) TL washer to replace his mothers WP that will now only spin.

What brands are out there aside from Whirpool and all the of their rebadged WP variants?   I must be having a brain-fart because I just can't think if anything.   Well OK there is GE, but after the last (crap) generation with the plastic tub, I won't go there.

Also before anyone yells "Speed Queen", it's just not within their budget.

They are looking for something in the MOL range.    What are the new belt drive WP's called?

Thanks!

Kevin

Hey Kevin ,,,

Gordon posted this little sweet Crosley washer should be in the 399.00 or 400.00 something range.

He said that it will fill in both wash & Rinse cycles.

Or a good second hand DD like the ones here going for 199.00 & 229.00 each.

From top of the line to med line.

Whirlpool & Kenmore.

Here in Philly anyway..should be the same near you.

Fisher and Paykel EcoSmart

The Fisher & Paykel EcoSmart has an agitaitor, and you can select one of three water levels or let it auto-fill. It has ATC, but hot is as HOT as whatever comes out of your tap. One of our members swears by them. You can buy one at Lowe's or a dedicated appliance dealer. The model has been around for more than ten years. They're simple to work on.

The Fisher & Paykel Company is out of New Zealand and has been around since 1934. The washers are assembled in Ohio, USA. Whirlpool uses some of their technology. They have a Wikipedia page.

Just picked up a hotpoint set at lowes recently. these are pretty bol but have enough cycles and options. the washer does allow for a full rinse or a spray rinse. i don't believe it mixes the hot water with cold on the hot fill either. these were purchased if i remember for the 2 for around $700-$800. very quite and capable machines. they didn't have them in stock. i found them on their website and they ordered them for me and were in within a week. been running fine with no problems.

New Non Energy Star TL Full Fill Agitator Washer

I would get a WP product in a heartbeat, these machines are working very well, are reasonably priced and are easy to repair [ if they ever break ] and will probably prove to be even more durable than the WP DD washers were.  I would skip the GE-HP TL washers they are just not durable in the long run [ or even short run, in the last month or so we scrapped at least 4 that were not even 4 years old and replaced them with SQ TL washers ] and they are IMPOSSIBLE to due major repairs on after just a few years as corrosion sets in on the basket mounting nut.

Non-HE style top load washer

Hey Kevin! I just bought the new Whirlpool that Pierre pictured above. I'm very satisfied with it so far. It's quiet, does an excellent job of washing, and fills a good inch higher than the direct-drives. The 800 rpm spin speed does improve water extraction. My only complaint is it takes a month of Sundays to fill with the redesigned water valve with flow restrictor.

First

Have another look at he old machine. When you say it will only spin, tell us what model it is. If this is a belt drive it could just be a bad wig-wag switch, or a broken wire to the W/W.

It may be worth a look, $1 worth of wire may get a few more years of usage out of the old TL.

Fill Restriction Valves

What is the point of them on both taps?

Are they trying to make fill times longer, to push people onto FL machines, or do the green people want "more precise" water levels?

If you cannot afford a new one, you really want to get an older pre-owned model without the new Department of Energy mandated ATC that dumbs down the hot water temp to barely warm to get that energy star rating...best bet is Craigslist as people are just tossing them away for pennies on the dollar.
Speed Queen makes a traditional top load full-fill washer don't they?
