I posted this in Vacuumland, but incase some of you don't get over there....

The owners picked up hot coals from the fireplace with it, then threw it outside into the snow after it caught fire. After all this though, it runs PERFECTLY. The damage was just cosmetic. It's things like this that make my job so much fun :-)

Maybe its a personal thing....

But had I done something so "genius" I'd have then quietly disposed of the vac, so no one would find out.

I wish the rest of my customers thought that way, retroguy. People think nothing of bringing in vacuums that they've sucked up animal waste with, undergarments, you name it. Total carelessness. Usually a cheap Dirt Devil or Bissell goes hand in hand with such ill bred behavior, but this is the first time I've had somebody do something so blatantly stupid with a high end machine.

and what might the $$$ be for stupidity such as this?

How much to put that in proper working order Andy?

Ha! I see silly disclaimers on appliances and think... "now WHO would ever do something THAT stupid?? Come on." Then I hear and see somehting like this! SHEESH!!!

"DO NOT RUN YOUR NEW VACUUM IN THE POOL."
"DO NOT USE YOUR NEW VACUUM TO CHANGE THE OIL IN YOUR CAR."
"DO NOT PICK UP HOT COALS WITH YOUR NEW VACUUM CLEANER!"

I've had my Lucy moments but...

Never did anything like this!! I'm with you Douglas, I would have quietly dumped the thing in the trash!

So Andy, what the heck are you going to do with that Phantom of the Opera vac?

andy

Show them to the rainbow dealer, drowns dust AND hot coals in Water, I bet the owners are "closet rainbow people"

This is too funny!

People are dumb individually, thank goodness they don't gather all in one place! (oh, wait - there is Congress!)

I've seen some really stupid things in the clean-biz too:

"I sprayed Orange Glo all over the shower to make it easier to clean..."

That will be $100 extra ma'am.

You don't even use a vacuum on fireplace ASHES, much less coals..

IMHO, this individual is a few fries short of a Happy Meal.

Wow, I'm surprised it still works, but that really says something about Sebo's quality. Amazing. I Wonder what would have happened if she did that with a Felix...the cloth part probably would be non-existant! What new parts did this one need? I'm assuming a new front panel/bag door and rug nozzle? Or at least the two plastic halves of the rug nozzle anyway!

""I sprayed Orange Glo all over the shower to make it easier to clean..."

I can only imagine how slippery that would be afterward. Yikes!

At one vac dealer I went to awhile ago-he had a Sharp upright vac on a display pedistal in his shop on what not to do with your Sharp vacuum-and that was just what the dummy did with his Sebo-pick up fireplace ashes and live ones at that. The sharp owner found the burning vac before his house burned down!He took it to the vac shop and asked if it could be repaired-it couldn't.the bag cover panel and the body was melted to almost non recognition. And the customer bought the vac from the same vac shop.the dealer was the Sharp dealer for the area-Manassas,Va.I'll confess I have picked up fireplace ashes-with my vacs but promply replace the bag and put the ash filled bag in the metal trash container well outside and away from my house.I have used Kirby G-3,Royal metal upright with hose and my NSS M1 to pick up the ashes.

Jeff, I haven't gotten the total yet, but I think it'll come out under 100. Hey, could you do me a big favor and email me your address at [email protected]? The last time you sent it to me, I forgot to save it, and AOL deleted the email. I have a package to send you!

Venus, it's soaking in Pet Odor and Stain Eliminator (great stuff) as we speak. Hopefully the char-broiled plastic odor can be eliminated.

Austin, it'll need a new bag door and top hood. That's it, really.

This is the first time I've really taken a Sebo completely apart. They are extremely well made machines. I've started to sell them commercially, since I've been disappointed in Sanitaires declining quality as of late.
