Today's progress

unclejohn - I remember the Dominion grocery stores well! Their bakery made the best Mille-Feuilles, with real cream. OINK!!

After Jon's wake-up call, I figured the first thing would be to get the washer out of the 'restricted zone' (I had three emails from Hubby's lawyer about that already!).

I managed to haul the washer down to the 'Canadian End' of the Ogden laundry. My new anti-inflammatory arthritis meds rock!

At the rear of the machine - this side shows the timer 'deck', what I am assuming is some kind of water-level switch, and the ubiquitous 'push to reset' button.

ID plate (sorry for the unfocused image - this is the best one I took!)

So, it's definitely from the Fergus, Ontario Beatty plant. The model number is 219521, Serial number 206524.

Made in Canada AND CSA approved! Whoot!!

I figured the first exploration should be the back of the control panel.

Check out the incandescent lights for the panel! I was sure it would be flourescent!

Note also the lack of a timer in the control panel... It's a flexible shaft that links the timer dial to the actual timer unit!

I opened up the motor access panel next. Just some dust - no obvious signs of trouble with wiring - bonus!

The hoses linking the tub to the pump seem nice and flexible - the drain hose is pretty stiff, though.

Oh nice!

Paul, that looks like a bumper system for out of balance spin to me. Tub looks very beamish in style not execution. I wonder how fast it spins??

Love the pink!!

Is that kitchen grease wiped away around the reset button? If so then this is a HOLLA find! Kitchen machines are so much better than basement machines!!

I had to open the middle panel to get a peek at the timer... I was a bit scared about disconnecting the flexible timer shaft, but I got over it! Timer and wiring look intact - the joys of a machine that did NOT get stored where mousies would find it!

The moment of truth...

GFI Outlet ready? - Check.

Power cord on machine OK and grounded? - Check

Fire extinguisher handy? - Check

I plugged the Dominion washer in and.... apart from the pretty lighted console, not much happened...

I heard the solenoids buzz at the fill part of the cycle and I heard the timer motor humming. I manually advanced the timer to the 'wash' section on the timer. The lights dimmed slightly and I heard a buzz, but no motion from the agitator.

I did not keep the power on for long, needless to say... So, I may have either a motor issue (starting capacitor is my first guess) OR something in the washing mechanism or drain pump has seized and is preventing the mechanism from turning.

Tomorrow's tests will include trying to manually spin the pulleys (sounds like an automaticwasher.org-themed game show... LOL) and perhaps unhooking the drive belt to see if the motor starts up.

Right - I had better get back to tonight's "But it's a rare Canadian machine - I HAVE to keep it" supper... Just hope my soufflé doesn't fall...
