As you may remember, I love trying to remember what appliances my parents had when I was little. The first fridge I remember retired about 1967. I have attached a terribly drawn picture of it.
What I can remember is the gleaming chrome pull open handle. It was hinged on the side closest to the door edge (you pulled the handle on the right side) and it was a heavy handle. That "unlatched" the fridge. I remember it moved very nicely and had a "damped" type feel to it, very heavy duty feeling.
I cannot tell you what was inside, of course it was a fridge and a freezer. I know that obviously none of the new 1967 fridges had such a latch, they had all the modern type doors from the late 50s/early 60s.
In the picture, the handle may have been more square, but I seem to remember a trapezoid aspect to it, and the longer side may be reversed then shown. It was rounded off also, not pointed at the edges, I just quickly threw this together in Paint. I believe there was a panel with maybe a square in it that the handle was mounted over. I remember I really liked the fridge.
I know a number of fridges had handles like this, but ours seemed to be quite large and a bit ornate.
Ideas on what it could be?
