Last year of Norge built machines...

1968, or 1969, I think.

At any rate, here is a Norge built Wards machine, and it was built in 1969.

I thought it was way later.

My mother had about a 1981 MOL Wards washer and dryer that was 100% Norge. It also had a Norge-design positive pressure flocker dryer.

If Norge did go out, did they keep producing appliance for Ward's after that? When did Norge go out, and when did MW stop using them?

I should have said Borg Warner built Norges were built until 1968, or 1969. I think Fedders took over Norge after that.

Sometime in the mid/late(ish) 80s

Because, I remember Consumer Reports seriously downgrading the last of the Norge designs for their spin brakes and that CLUNK. Plus, they had a laundromat near my college campus with new or almost new Norge washers in 1987.

Norge

Norge washers and dryers were available up untill 2001. They were only available to your Ma and Pa appliance and furniture stores as well as export places.Maytag decided to liquidate the line and keep only the names like Admiral , Magic Chef , Jenn Air , and also made the Crosley waashers and dryers until 2001.Electrolux took Crosley's line except for their top loading washers and matching dryers made by Whirlpool. The high end Maytags were also made in the Illinois factory.I truly believe that decision along with Maytag the introduction of the Neptunes prior to getting the bugs out,was what ruined the 100 year tradition of Maytag causing them to take a severe dive only to be bought out by Whirlpool :(

Laundromat you are right, generations of buyers realized after the got those awful herrin machines that they had been duped. the neptune debacle was, well what it was, just sloppy. I think the real death of Maytag was Ralph Hake at the helm. Maytag knew laundry not soft drink vending machines (Dixie-Narco). They also bought out Magic chef to get the cooking and i think the refrigeration line of products. Then there was the Hoover buy out. Its still sad I like my A206 and religiously check craigs list. But they really screwed the pooch in the end.

It's Funny.....

Growing up in a roral neighborhood with homes that were built including their appliances, many of my neighbors weren't really thrilled with the Westinghouse Laundromat washers the builders,Lee,included with their newly built bungaloes.I remember at least 5 different maytag sets in our imediate area which was 50 different residential houses.

Ms murphy ( who by the way is still in her house and must be at least 90 years old now)STILL has her A806 and DG606 Maytags in white as of my last visit back in '07.to burry my Dad.She was at the wake and just happened to remember seeing the newspaper back in '88 when the Baltimore Sun (Lynn Williams) wrote an article about my fasination with appliances.I asked her "what about your old A806 and DG606 maytags??" "What ever happened to them?" "What did you replace them with?" She asked me to come over and see for myself.I walked up the next day and,low and behold, there they were, the same ones I hated because you couldn't(I had no clue about the wiring and didn't dare to attempt sliding that piece of cardboard behind the lid)realy watch it but boy did it do a great job and she said that the local dealer had one of their techs go and replace the hoses, the belts on both units and replace the worn out agitator. They also tested them before leaving to be sure they ran fine. Now I feal like a stupid idiot because now,I realy prefer the old Helical drive Maytags over any other top loading, oscilating washing machines. They had it!The agitator was so simple because it dispensed detergent and fabric softner as well as fully filtering all the wash and rinse water catching any loose fabric and lint.No billowing, bubbling up of sheets and pillow cases, rare off ballance loads and great rollover.Porcelain on zink tub and lid,and easy to fix and maintain.Had my interest been earlier than it was, I am sure that I would have had many more sets than ever.My apologies to Maytag for my misjudgement and pride.Sorry!
